Taurus is reaching a bit with this statement.....

This just caught my attention while reviewing some of their more recent releases.

Note that they are targeting law enforcement for this particular model and it is NOT available to the general public (yea, right). They also claim that this model "features Taurus' revolutionary Single Action/Double Action trigger system that fires normally from a smooth single action mode, yet, if a primer fails to ignite, it provides a life-saving second try at firing a faulty cartridge a feature no other pistol on the market offers."

Uh, what the hell are they claiming?!?! My S&W 410S has the same function and so do my Berettas. Am I missing something here, or are there ad writers smoking too much pot? "Because when you put your life on the line, you need a gun that can back you up." Good lord! Perhaps this is a Brazilian thing? [B)]

    Here's the thing about Taurus.

    Their management are "true believers" like Ronnie Barrett.

    I spoke to Bob Morrison years ago after S&W had made their "deal with the devil" and he said, and I quote...

    "I'll burn this building to the ground and walk away before I make a Faustian bargain like that with the US gov."

    Back about 99, S&W made a deal with the anti-gun Klinton administration through HUD that they would implement a new "code of conduct" in order to be the sole allowed bidder on certain .gov contracts for purchasing firearms.

    This "deal with the devil" caused a great backlash among longtime S&W fans and dealers, there was even a pic on the Internet of a dealer p1ssing on his "authorized Smith and Wesson Dealer" wall plaque (after he had set it on the ground, of course) and their stock fell like a rock.

    Scottdale, AZ's "SafeThammer" company bought S&W a couple years later for pennies on the dollar. S&W had been owned by a British based holding company who also owned the "Plews" line of auto maintenence and lubrication tools.

    Bob Morrison, (CEO of Taurus) told me that Taurus had offered S&W their internal locking system, which is patented, to use FOR FREE and WITHOUT CITATION to help them avoid this HUD deal. S&W, snobs that they are, run by idiots, refused and instead entered the deal with the .gov.

    In March 2000, Smith & Wesson signed an agreement with the Clinton Administration in order to avoid lawsuits[1]. The company agreed to numerous safety and design standards, as well as limits on the sale and distribution of their products. Gun clubs and gun rights groups responded to this agreement almost instantly by initiating large-scale boycotts of Smith & Wesson by refusing to buy their new products and flooding the firearms market with used S&W guns, cutting into their market share.     On May 11, 2001, Saf-T-Hammer Corporation acquired Smith & Wesson Corp. from Tomkins PLC for US$15 million, a fraction of the US$112 million originally paid by Tomkins. Saf-T-Hammer also assumed US$30 million in debt, bringing the total purchase price to US$45 million.[3][4] Saf-T-Hammer, a manufacturer of gun locks and other firearms safety products, purchased the company with the intention of incorporating its line of security products into all Smith & Wesson firearms in compliance with the 2000 agreement.

    The acquisition of Smith & Wesson was chiefly brokered by Saf-T-Hammer President Bob Scott, who had left Smith & Wesson in 1999 because of a disagreement with Tomkins' policies. After the purchase, Scott became the president of Smith & Wesson to guide the 157-year-old company back to its former standing in the market.

    On February 15, 2002, the name of the newly formed entity was changed to Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation."

    I have friends who still won't by S&W over that deal. I think the ban send a message out to other companies.

    i had a friend that has had a semi and a auto with them, and sent both back for repair, the revolver seems fine, but the semi still dosen't strike all the time like it should resulting in a lot of misfires. No wounder no police agency won't take them up on a deal

    HG mine is a 4" barrel, identical in all respects except barrel length. I tried to buy a the LS but at that time there were none actually available. I am not and never have been a leo, I am a biologist.

    I too had another Taurus revolver and have found it a fine, well made, problem free shooter.

    nope, I don't carry concealed, and my hunting sidearm is a .45LC Vaquero. I just like it.
