    It is for blowing locks off doors, using a frangible slug. The vented portion of barrel you see near the muzzle is the "standoff." Keeps the actual muzzle back a couple of inches from the target so you don't get excited and blow your gun up.

    The teeth are to grip the surface of the door, lock, etc. That is a fairly specialized barrel, and not everyone would want one, except maybe as an oddity. It will, however, shoot normal shells if you need it to.

    Our tactical entry team has one, but we have never had to use it, and I wouldn't want to be the one holding it when it gets used.[;)]

    Is that device screwed in the barrel? If not it looks like it could be machined and made to screw in.
