Going to Vegas! **UPDATE**
I'm going to Vegas in October! Does anyone have a hotel reccomendation?
I want one on the strip - I am not renting a car so I will walk the strip/take the monorail or taxi everywhere. I am thinking Mirage but that is the only one that I know someone that stayed there.

The Monte Carlo is real nice and it is walking distance from everything. While your there you have to go to The Nine Fine Irishmen pub in New York New York.

Stay away from the Stratosphere. It is at the end of the strip. Roller coaster on top also makes one dizzy.[:D] 0 -

Bellagio is where we stay. But any of the newer ones are nice. Get a players club card and use when you gamble, they will comp you free stuff if you PLAY enough. 0 -

...The Bellagio is nice. Their "standard" rooms are a notch above the others. We've stayed at the MGM twice, and have no complaints there either. 0 -
Luxor (stay in towers,not in pyramid), NY, NY, are good places on the south end of the strip. If you want a much more "child" free stay, go with THEhotel at Mandalay Bay or Mandalay Bay itself, both very nice but very pricey. HOOTERS is right behind the Tropicana on Trop Ave. Rooms aren't the greatest but the scenery is outstanding!
Riviera , Venetian, Treasure Island, and the Wynn are all good places on the north end of the stip.

I'm not bringing kids and definately do not want a kid friendly hotel! I was looking at Treasure Island and it is looking pretty good - $650/person for 3 nights. The Bellagio looks good too but about $200 more/person. 0 -
I was there this summer and stayed at the Imperial Palace. It is a little older than some, but it was clean and more reasonable than many. It's in walking distance of many others. 0 -
Look into renting a car......$12-16 at Dollar.com, usually. Too cheap to take taxis and the monorail is expensive as hell!

Screw a car! It's like $25/day parking fee at the hotel! We are going to stay on the strip and limit our trip to the strip - gambling, a few shows, drinking, etc.0 -

I love the Stratosphere.
I stay there every year and with cheap bus tickets like $5 you can ride up and down the strip all day.0 -
The Stratosphere is nice and cheap, as far as strip properties go. Right across the street is the Sahara, the last of the old casinos. It's pretty cheap too. Check out travelworm.com and other travel sites for the best deals. 0 -

Oh yeah, rent a car! This is 10:30pm on Las Vegas Blvd, on a Tuesday after the traffic had slowed down.[:D] There are lots of buses and the monorail isn't that bad if you buy a day pass. A whole lot of comfortable tour buses for trips out of town, like to Hoover dam.

While Mrs K enjoys the Bellagio, I happen to favor Caesar's Palace but I don't feel that you can go wrong with either faciltiy. If you plan to spend most of your time at the resort then the Bellagio seems to have slightly better food, but Caesar's has better shopping. 0 -
Forget renting a car. Taxis are cheap and everywhere, and the drivers will give you lots of useful information.

What kind of fool tries to drive down the strip? Only tourists! What sort of hotel are you staying in that you have to pay to park? I've never seen that in Vegas, even when we stayed at the Venetian.
Renting a car gives you soooooooooooooooooooooo much more freedom! There is a LOT more to Las Vegas than just the strip! Seriously.

Get a car!! As some said it lets you have more freedom. You want to gamble at another hotel, drive up and valet park. It's free just tip the guy that brings ur car around. You want to go downtowm, simple get your car and go, come home when you like, valet park. PFS...
Note: stay off the main drag as much as possible, there are side streets that will have less trafic on them. Get a map and plan b4 you go.0 -

Thanks for all the advice! I decided to go with Treasure Island ($1500 for 2 with room + airfair) and no car. I don't want to be tied down by the car. We are going to stay on the strip and take the taxi or the monorail everywhere. If I win some money I'll have a giveaway. 0 -
