O.K., so I dont now much about the USO as of now. However I know the USO from WW 2 days. A great group. A "home away from home" stateside. Spent some hours in their USO clubs in a couple of camps prior to going overseas. In fact one of their lesser known facilities was sending home a voice recording (on a small 6" record good for 2 minutes) instead of a letter. (no fee at all). I still have 2 of these records I sent home which my mother kept, sent from Camp Howze TX prior to going overseas. They also supplied paper and envelopes for letters along with snacks and soft drinks plus other entertainment. Granted, being in the Infantry we did not see too much of them except a occasional doughnut wagon and coffee but that was expected. My hat is off to them. Same as the American Red Cross for their part. My treatment by the American Red Cross was also great. Yea, in Feb. '45 was shipped to a hospital in Le Harve France. A Red Cross Ditty bag with a paperback, candy, cigarettes, toothbrush, paste, razor etc was hung on my bed. Yes, I have heard other tales about both the USO and the ARC but never saw them myself.

The USO is still a great organization. I had the pleasure of visiting two of their facilities stateside (homemade cookies, chips, salsa, and BRATS!!![8D][8D][8D]) While overseas I had the pleasure of attending a comedy show featuring three guys that I can't remember (funny though) and Colin Quinn from Saturday Night Live. They are good people and provide a worthwhile service to the troops.
