I've seen it many times(bought the dvd a while back) and I strongly believe that every high school senior should be required to see this movie and the sacrifices made by that generation. I try to personally thank someone who has served, no matter when they were in the military, when i meet them and become aware of their service. ---Just a little side question--- I recently read the US Casualties (killed and wounded)in ww2 was around 961,000. Do people think more was at risk back then(to send the numbers of soldiers). So far since roughly since 9-11 there have been around +4200 fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan, thats in 6 years of war. In Iwo Jima, we suffered approx 8200 fatalites in 36 days of fighting. They all deserve the same praise from us civies, doesnt matter whether they are 18 years old or 88 years old. Always remember what our soldiers have given us. 0 -

A friend of mine was an Army medic at D-day. He spent his 21st birthday in the basement of a bombed-out church in Normandy. He can't even talk about it without breaking into tears. It must have been hell on earth. God bless them all. [V] 0 -

I said to see "the sacrifices of that generation". How i should have worded it ..... To see the sacrifices of our service men(and women) no matter where or when they served, though some gave more than others. I still say God Bless them all. 0 -

"Flags of our Fathers" is a GREAT book. But just too much information to translate into a movie. At least what appeared a fairly low budet (as compared to SPR or BOB) film.
And if you had read the book, it was like watching a TV re-run. You knew what was going to happen. Kinda ruined the 1st time movie experience.0 -
I knew an old boy who jumped w/the 82nd on D-Day. He told me some interesting stuff. Also about fighting in Africa and Italy as well. 0 -
Great movie. I would love to see With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge made into a competent movie as well. Deprivation and hardship in spades. It's the S.P.R. of the Pacific.

Every time I watch Saving Private Ryan, I find myself almost ducking and sliding down in my chair at the begining of the movie when those guys were hiding behind those steel things in the water and the bullets ricocheting all over.
I can't even imagine going through that!

A friend of mines grandfather was there on D-Day. He was married for 50+ yrs and never spoke a word about it to her. He talks about being in the military sometime. But not D-Day. My friend asked him about it when SPR came out and his grandfather got up and left the room almost in tears. I cannot imagine what they went through.0 -
I saw Pork Chop Hill when I was a kid... That was enough for me.... I still want to Nuke China and North Korea!!! 0
