The Winchester Model 1907 is the most common of the three Winchester S.L. (Self Loading) Models (1905/1907/1910). Winchester manufactured the Model 1907 from 1907 through the early 1950s. Many saw service as prison guard guns, and some even saw military service use (primarily in airplanes).

The .351 W.S.L. cartridge is actually fairly anemic (on par with a .357 magnum), and it is considered very marginal for game use. The ballistics can not be improved due to the type of action (balanced blow-back) used in the Model 1907. As Mike pointed out, the Model 1907 has a propensity of throwing spent cartridges in highly random patterns (in other words, all over the place), which makes it difficult to recover the brass for reloading, which is the only cost effective way to shoot this cartridge.

They are interesting guns though. I own an early Model 1905 in .35 W.S.L. (a slightly shorter and less powerful version of the .351). It is fun to shoot, but I always have to shoot it when no one else is on the firing line (people tend to get annoyed when they randomly get pelted with a hot empty case).
