Welcome to winter in Maine.
I moved into my house the beginning of January. My house is on a dirt road over 1200ft from the main road. My truck is 4 wheel drive and I had no trouble getting to and from my house. HOWEVER, the oil company and anyone else did.
I paid the local guy $100 to plow and sand the road and he did excellent, but at $100 a pop that adds up.
So I talked to him about it and he sold me this.....
1986 GMC 2500 4x4 with a 350 engine and 4.10 gears. Came with plow and all gear. Runs real good but has the usual normal problems with older vehicles. Still stickers.
He let me have it for $1000. Thats only 10 plowings. I have already needed to plow my road twice and my brothers road once.

One of our progressive thinking managers ordered a super duty with a snow-plow package almost two years ago......we still have it on the lot!!! (We are in Norfolk Va * no snow....hardly ever)

You can hardly make it thru the winter up her without a plow. MAYBE you can get by with just a snow blower. $1000 is an excellent deal no matter how you look at it. Way to go Rugergunz! The plow alone is probably worth almost that.

in delaware my buddy had a Kubota tractor with a bucket on the front, and the little arm bucket thing on the back, he went from hous to house and charged 75 bucks to pull your car out if it was stuck and to plaw your driveway!. He made a grand the first 2 days. -Dave 0 -

I make it through just fine!
I like my shovel. Id use a snowplow, but i dont have one, and a shovel is cheaper. 20 bucks a job. Dirt cheap filth work XD0 -
You can make a good bit of money plowing for folks. My boss up in Alaska would fish then in the winter plow. 0 -

for a couple hundred bucks you can install an air locker in the front differintal and have a true 4x4, providing you have a posi unit in the back 0 -
I have lived in Maine all my life, but only recently moved into my own house.
I had a deal with my brother that he would plow my road but his plow truck decided that it didnt like to run anymore.
First I was planning on putting a plow on my S-10, but knowing that the S-10 couldn't push like a full-size truck and that the plow and gearing would be over $1000 I figured this a good deal.
ONE QUESTION.
There are not many places that need plowing and most people already have a guy this year anyways, BUT if I decided to do driveways next year is there any special insurance or license I may need???

My plow truck is a 77 Ford F150, 4wd, 4 spd (only use 3). It's not inspectable these days, but, I drive it up the highway about 3 miles for gas. I just use it to keep my mile long road clear and plow out the neighbors. The bed has long since rusted away, and there isn't a single body panel that isn't dented or rusted. Yet it starts and does the job. Sometimes I have to pay one of the locals to come in with his front end loader and tidy things up a bit, but, not this year. So far. Plowing snow is actually fun. You can see where you've actually accomplished something. 0
