repairing a forearm
Should I try to repair or replace that forearm or do you think a young man might overlook the name Pam carved into his first rifle?
How hard would it be to fill that in and make it look right?

There is no way that I can think of that you could fill that and make it look right. Your only options would to sand it down and remove enough wood to eliminate the name or to replace the stock. Good luck.0 -

One option would be to see if you can inlay a contrasting peice of veneer over the damaged spot. That only works if it can be done tastefully.
You could also sand it to the minimum to remove the damage.0 -

It may not be that difficult to find a used replacement. I would leave it alone before trying to fill it, sand it, etc. You might even find another rifle with decent wood and crummy metal, do a swap and then part out the rest of it. 0
