Could I use a replacement window in a structure that is currently being built?

  The answer is no if it is new construction. In order to use a replacement window, you would need to install a "real" window (older type) and then remove the sashes and channels - it would be pointless.

  Better ask a 'real' carpenter. I helped build my house 3 years ago (not that I'm a carpenter) and found a deal on windows. I bought 8 windows, a mix of new construction with flanges and replacement windows. As I got all of them for $150 I was determined to use them. (I'm so cheap I squeek) He used 2 in the back of the house, 2 in bathrooms and 2 in a hallway upstairs and the other 2 in the two car garage. The last one ? I sold it for $100. It was one of the replacements and about 6 1/2 feet tall. He said he had no problem using them, and he would have told me if it was a problem.

  Yes, you will have to spend some more time on the trim work for the outside and inside is the big difference.

  One more thing. Be aware that older windows may not offer UV protection and if your furniture and other possessions are going to be exposed to any direct sunlight, the lack of UV protection is important.
