If you want something done right, do it yourself.

Seriously, one is lucky to get a technically competent person in service industries, let alone one who is competetant and gives a darn about the customer.

Tell him it's somewhere in a two block radius, and you thought you saw it while you were looking for your dogs. Or maybe it was while you were cleaning your carpet, but you just can't remember right now. I'm sure it will come to you eventually.[:)]

Complain to the max!!!! At least they could give you a discount or a free month of service.

I've gotten to the point I call them on their actions before they leave and have them clean up after themselves.

    Idiots![:(!]

Its hard to find good help when you PAY CRAP WAGES. Pay a good wage, and competent people will find YOU.

Cable techs make crap. It USED to be a good job, until they contracted everything out to the "lowest bidder". Now they are untrained idiots, for the most part.

If he calls about the tool tell the earliest you could return it would be between 8:00AM and 5:00 PM on the second Tuesday of next week.

you're well within your rights to send them a cleaning bill. If they don't respond, send it to their insurance company.

The ones who come out for repair/installation are usually independent contractors. Good luck getting squat out of them, but you might get some freebies out of your provider for your troubles.

My experience (so far) has been much better than that Saxon, but if I were you I would sure as heck be on the phone to the customer service folks giving them an ear full. Enough complaints and the service guy is history.

It'll only take you an hour and a half to get someone to speak to.

If you were at home when this occured, why didn't you tell the guy to wipe his feet before he came in OR tell him to remove his shoes? Did you think to have everything checked out before he left? Sure, the installer should be responsible, but, with the world the way it is today, the customer needs to be proactive. Sounds like you were watching this happen.

    I have to ask...

Did you not ask them politely to remove their shoes?
Did you check the tv's to see if they were working properly before they left?
Did you check the gate after they left to see if they had closed it?..
Did you check to see if they cleaned up their mess before they left?

Four years ago we were living in Georgia. We had cable tv. We had called the company over to add another tv upstairs. There was one experienced guy, and one guy who told us he was a trainee.
The guys worked for about an hour. They were just wrapping up, and I went behind the tv set downstairs just to check up on their work. I noticed that the little threaded connector that sticks out of the back of the vcr, which the cable screws into, had been broken off. I knew that these guys had broken it, because I had just watched a video movie about two hours earlier.
I asked the guys about it, they "didn't know nothing." I looked under the newspaper on the coffee table, and there was the connector! The guys had broken my vcr, hidden the connector, and were now lying about it.
I told the guys to their face that I knew they had broken it, and hidden it, and they "should 'fess up."
We argued for a few minutes, they got mad and left, without even getting us to sign the form.

We got a new vcr out of the cable company, but our roomate had to spend about four hours on the phone, in six or seven calls, over a three week period, to get anything out of the b*******.

Not to bababooey on anyones profession, but most are subcontracted and not part of the cable/satellite company, and "most" of these folks were flippin' burgers a month earlier before being handed electrical tools.

    TRUE STORY

Ordered DirecTv about 8yrs ago. Comes with "free" installation. (might as well let someone else do it if it's free right?)
Teenager shows up, I'm clearing out some room in the living room. I come out to find the guy put the satellite on my roof.
The satellite has a base plate with 4 holes in it.
He layed the base plate flat, directly on my shingles and drilled 4 holes through it and screwed in 4 lag bolts. Directly through the roof and shingles! What a F#*@kin' idiot![:(!] There's no way that wouldn't leak and rot the roof, much less hold just going through the decking.

Needless to say it came down, I set a pole and we placed it there. Then I had to get up on the roof to seal the 4 big ass holes through it.

I bet he was fired from Mickey D's for not being able to opperate the fry machine.[}:)]

    BR-

    1. No, I would expect a mature, reasonable human being to not require reminding. Workers should conduct themselves in a professional manner when in customers' homes. They are not children to be led around by the hand and taken to the potty.

    2. No. They should have done that and apparently all they did was check the TV in the living room.

    3. No. Yhey should have had the good sense and courtesy to leave gates as they found them. In this case that would be closed. Especially since they (there were two of them) knew that I had dogs because I asked them to wait while I locked them up in the office.

    4. No. That should be part of their job. No employee should leave a mess in a customer's home. See #1.

Why do I get the feeling that if I said the world was spinning on its axis you would insist on disagreeing with me?

MG- If I told you what I am thinking, and said how I really feel about you, I'd have to poof myself and Nunn said I would go blind doing that. Besides, you should be trying to keep a low profile.

Sounds like you want sympathy for things that were in your control and didn't right because of YOUR laxed attitude. Why would you want to pass the buck for not confirming the job was done correctly, neatly and to your satisfaction BEFORE he left?

Where did you get the idea I was "disagreeing" with you? I asked 4 questions, nothing more, nothing less...

Do you always leave things the way you found them?...Doesnt your boss check your work?...

Do you always act in a professional manner when dealing with someone else?

I dont guess you hired mind readers?..

And by the way, IF I disagree with you, I say so....I dont beat around the bush as you should know...

One other thing....I have found in all my years of dealing with people you get back what you give...In other words, if you give respect, you get respect....if you give polite courteous service, that is exactly what you get back...

No, they are not all like that. The 99% just give the rest a bad name. When I got Direcwayr, the "technician" they sent out here started borrowing my tools as soon as he got here. I watched him for a while, but when I saw he was about to destroy the back of my house, I just let him watch me do the installation. Unfortunately, he did considerable damage before I figured out I had to stop him. He didn't have time to do the set-up after the installation, so I was on the phone to India for about three hours doing that.

You can call "customer service", but you will use up all your cell minutes listening to the most god-awful "music" you have ever suffered through while you are on hold. When you finally talk to a human, you will hear something like "Gee, I'm sorry. Nothing like that has ever happened before." When you as to speak to a supervisor, you will hear something like "I am the supervisor."

Any work that DirecTVr has done out here has had to be redone, either by me or "out of pocket" by a local technician. Mike of Mikes Radio and TV told me he wouldn't have to redo so much of their work if they would just buy a crimping tool.

Send them a bill and give them a choice of paying for the damages or paying for the damages and your lawyer.

And another thing. When you pay somebody to do something, you ain't supposed to have to ask them if they did it. [:(!]

Uh, BR . . . "sometimes." It's been my experience that at least 25% of the time being respectful and courteous results in large muddy footprints - either on the carpet or on my person . . . and the percentage grows steadily. Good service is vanishing and we seem to have a society increasingly predicated on "I don't give a damn as long as I get paid." Far better to be like the good Roosevelt - "speak softly and carry a big stick" . . . applying same with vigor at the first hint of a problem.

If a stranger comes into my home, I am going to watch him or her like a hawk until their business is done and they are off my property. I am going to ask questions and let them know that I am paying attention to their every move. I don't care one bit if it makes them uncomfortable or nervous. For me to do otherwise in the year 2007 is just plain careless. It's a Service Call not a Social Call.
