Back pain need help.... UPDATE...
Went to see my Dr... was not the back... I had the bottom rib come loose.... Dr says this is going to cause me some real pain for a good long time....
Okay this is the deal.
I was going to shoot with my wife and daughter. I picked up the .22 revolver and fired 1 shot. I had an instant pain in my back, made me think I had been hit with a ricochete. The pain is just awful, I have no meds that will touch this. Do any of you have any idea's that I can try. I do not want to go in and see a Dr but I am almost to that point.
I will try most anything, I am opened minded.

Go to a massage therapist for a deep tissue massage, then go see a chiropractor. A lot of people don't have faith in them, but those people don't really need a back adjustment either. 0 -
Sounds like a herniated disc. Flat of your back in the bed til the pain subsides. Not in a recliner and not on the couch. Certainly not in front of a computer monitor. 0 -
Acupuncture ... don't laugh - it works ... haven't the time at the moment for a detailed
explanation or personal endorsement. Will be back to explain later. Zip0 -
Sounds like a muscle spasm. Get them myself. Better see a doctor as they can get quite painful. Muscle relaxers are probably the fastest/best cure. Providing that is what it is. I always wait a day to give it a chance. I had an attack once so bad I could not get off the floor where I went down for hrs... good luck 0 -
Oh, and like Z7 said. Go see a chiropractor. I was raised to beleive they were quacks and bone crackers. I went to one after I was told pain pills the rest of my life or surgery. I don't really know now why the pain pill route so was bad..............oh, I'm sorry. I guess that's what they call a literal tangent. A small frame little man named Don Worley had me on the table and I felt marked results from the first visit. It hurt stepping onto and off of curbs until I finally gave him a try. Plus, he had some really good looking little young girls assisting. Go, go, go. You won't regret it. 0 -
BR here....
GO see the dr RIGHT AWAY....I know one person who did something very similiar and finally went to the dr after a week or so....A piece of disc had broken off, and lodged in the canal, almost severing the nerve....Surgery was required to get the person walking again....Dont screw around, get to the dr...0 -
I'd be calling the doctor first thing in the morning. 0 -
....Dave.....knowing of your condition, see the darn doc. You're in no shape to screw around with something like that. I've heard you talk of the meds you have, and if they aren't working, ya'll better be seeing someone. Best to ya. 0 -
If it is that bad, go to the ER right now. Your back is one thing you don't want to mess around with. 0 -

You are having muscle spasms. It's the body's way of saying "Don't move!" You have a bulging disc that is pressing on a nerve and the surrounding muscles are trying to hold your spine ridgid until the bulging disc sublaxes. Don't take any more pills, unless it's Aleave or plain old asprins. Take at least 4 aspirins or 3 or 4 Aleave. Strong willed people are hooked on pain pills today because the took pain pills to ease their back pain. They only work a little bit and the problem's still there. Do you have pain shooting down your leg or leg numbness? If you do, you must see an orthopedic dr. right away. If you don't have leg pain or numbnsess, a chiropractor can get you going. What ever you do, don't lie on the couch or easy chair. As soon as you can walk without sharp pain, get moving. Let me know when you get better, I'll be praying for you. Please, don't let them cut on you except as a last resort. 0 -
By going to a chiropracter last year, it delayed me for around 7 months from seeing a real MD. When I finally saw the Orthopedic MD, it was discovered that I had been living with a BROKEN BACK and the chiropracter's treatment had given me only very short term relief. If I hadn't seen a real Doctor, it is very possible that I would be crippled by now.
Had back surgery, convalesced, and can finally be back on GB.
GO SEE A DOCTOR - a real one.
Best wishes for your recovery.

Having had back surgery as early ago as January 2005 to repair a ruptured disc (L5-S1), I will suggest a couple of things. Go to a medical doctor. He can do a few checks to see if it is a herniated/ruptured disc or if it just simple muscle spasms. If it just muscle spasms, then a chiropractor can help. If the disc is herniated then you can do some physical therapy to help it from rupturing. I have a herniated L4-L5 and I see a physical therapist once a month. They can also give you a TENS unit (made by EMPI). It uses electrical impulses to short-circuit the nerves in your back. It will take away the pain without drugs. I don't suggest a chiropractor for a herniated disc because once it is herniated it will not fix itself, it will always be herniated. The only remedy for this situation is to strengthen your abdominal muscles to hold your spine straight. All a chiropractor can do for you is a "re-alignment", but if the muscles can't hold the spine in that position, then it doesn't do any good.
Now, if the disc is ruptured, the only solution is surgery, no matter what anyone tells you. It is a very dangerous situation as that piece of disc may pinch against a nerve and will eventually cause permanent damage, as can be attested to the fact that I will never again have feeling in the small toe of my left foot. I "worked through the pain" and was "a man" about my condition and that was my reward.
That being said, it is your body and your decision. I am just trying to help by letting you know about my condition.
P.S. The surgery isn't as dangerous as everyone makes it out to be. As with anything that occurs that close to the spinal column, there is some small chance that something could go wrong. But, if you do have a herniated/ruptured disc and you do nothing then there is a 100% chance that something will go wrong.0 -
Check out your condition with a good hospital specialist - do all the scans - tests and
treatments. Acupuncture is absolutely unbelievable for pain control if the traditional
Western pain meds aren't effective.
I am not an advocate of chiropractors - I've seen many who have had more harm than good by their treatments. That's just my personal experience.
Find an experienced acupuncturist - Asians are best, if possible - it's a way of life/cultural
more than just a job. Mine is an M.D. from Berkeley who spent 7 years studying at the acupuncturist college in Beijing, China. She is married to a Western M.D. and is the first to
refer patients to Western medicine and treatment if it seems appropriate. Dr. Tom is the
dean of the local acupuncture college here in San Diego. Her practice is in Pacific beach and can usually be reached by prone if you wish to talk to her.
Another thing that surprised me about acupuncture is that treatments are usually prescribed for a certain specific number of sessions - no more or less, unlike chiropractors who seem to have open ended (unlimited) 'treatments' or 'adjustment sessions.'
I've only needed Dr. Tom's attention once - seven sessions - when all else (meds and
painkillers) were not at all effective. All but one of the folks I've recommended to Dr. Tom
have come back pleased and relieved with a lot of great success stories.
I'd recommend the 'ancient form' (5,000 years old) over the 'modern' version (3,000 year old technique).
Good luck and I hope you find relief.

Go to your doctor fast.If your doctor can't help you, go to a doctor that deals in back pain. If all else fails go to a chiropracter that uses a round plundger type devise. Do not go to a chiropracter that twists your body or uses electrical massage tools. 0
