Hot Truck Question ????
O.K. , I know this is not gun related and I relly dont like to , but Im at a hard spot with this dang truck ...
Mazda '87 2200 5 speed w-240000 miles (moter complete rebuild @ 200002) ran just fine till apx. one month ago ...
Now it runs HOT , not to the point of overheating but almost , temp gauge ih in the o.k. range but stays @ the upper limit . Has new fan , fan clutch , belts , thermostat , new anti-freeze (50-50),heater works , ais works , Im not willing to spend much but would like an idea before I just sell it off ...
Any Suggestions/Ideas???
Thanks !!!

You may have put a higher temp thermostat in the the truck then it had before the rebuild and at first the weather may have been cooler so temp looked like it use to look now weather warmer so it looks like it is running hotter. #2 the new waterpump / fan belt may be slightly loose #3 the gage my have started to go bad. If you can fine an older shop with a calibrated Gage get them to check how hot you are running . If no drop in coolant I don't think you have a problem.Your Mileage may vary 0 -
Dad had that problem with an 88 Bronco II. New radiator, water pump, thermostat, everything. Even a new gauge in the dash. Still ran hot, almost overheating. He had a hairline crack in the engine head that was throwing off the heat flow. 0 -
I have a Mazda 1991 B2600i with very low mileage for the age, 82,000.
It runs hot and has to some degree ever since I bought it. After the radiator failed and was replaced with kind of a generic part, it runs hotter, but still within the "normal" range on the uncalibrated gauge.
I figure it will just have to be hot; I only use it for local errands, have a van for travel.0 -
what about a bad radiator cap? 0 -
New thermostat... Change it out again. I've seen new parts fail. Thermostat is probably barely open to let water go thru it. 0 -
Faulty temp gauge? 0 -
check the thermostat. i have seen those fail right out of the box. Like someone said, make sure its the right temp, I would check the springs in the radiator hose to make sure they arent collapsing any. Is the fan the correct size? Maybe the radiator is stopped up some. 0 -
What Shoff14 said. Take the cap off and look at the seal.
Also I recently had coolant 'gel' on me when I ran it at over 50%.0 -
The first thing I would do is check the temp of the coolant (when it's in the upper limit) with a thermometer. If reads out that it's over 190 degrees, have the cooling system pressure tested and look for a cracked head or headgasket. 0 -
First two things to check....
Thermostat and coolant
Check that your thermostat is functioning or just buy a new one.
Is your coolant still clear? If it is smoky or oily you have a gasket issue (intake or head gasket). The oil in the coolant will not allow the coolant to do its job as well as straight coolant.
From there you have your fans to check, radiator(are the fins bent and broken, clogged). I had an Olds Toronado that looked as though someone smeared heavy axle grease all over the radiator. Ran around 220 degrees. Never got overheated, but would get up to 240 at tops. Flushed the radiator, used water wetters, etc. Finally I pulled my radiator, and used about 5 cans of brake cleaner and engine degreaser to clean it out. Afterwards it ran at 180.0 -
also make sure your coolant mixture is 50/50 water/antifreeze,and dont use tap water, buy distilled, the mineral deposits [tap water] over time will clog and slow flow rates. 0 -
I thought we were talking about how to dispose of a stolen vehicle... I was going to suggest parting it out and melting down the frame. 0 -
[8D]--One more thing to check-If it has electric rad fan, the relay/thermoswitch may have failed and the fans don't come on automatically at some preset temperature--
--This can be devastating for just town driving, but OK for hiway-check it out--

Carburetor is running to lean.....would cause the problem.
Half plugged up radiator.....would cause the problem.
Nearly plugged up catalytic convertor....raises engine temperature significantly.
Too many variables.
It's always something simple. Hack off the cat and put a piece of straight pipe in there....replace the radiator....clean the carburetor. Done.0 -
I'd have the radiator cleaned if it hasn't already been done.
