Does anyone here have a Brinks home security system? Thinking about installing one. Any input?

i have it, and love it, not only cheaper than any other {who would have thought}, but customer service is by far the best i have ever experienced, and it will take about 90 seconds to respond

consider the monthly fees also. as as long as they are UL listed, should be fine. just have to figure out intial cost and monthly cost for the time you expect to use it 0 -
We have ADT. After a recent attempted break-in we added a few more motion detectors. Get one in the garage, upstairs (they use ladders) and also the basement or crawl space. 0 -

They offered to install a killer system, both security and fire, for under $500.00. That's with lot's of extras like a cell phone back-up, extra motion detectors, etc.

Brinks, ADT, Pinkertons all use the same OLD technology to try and frighten housebreakers away. I added some real-time video cameras, a couple of extra sensors (PIR & proximity), and if I ever experience another attempted break-in; I'm pretty sure the perp will be there when the cops finally show up. If they somehow manage to get back out of the house; I've still got 'em on TiVo!
See, to my way of thinking, go ahead and break IN; you're not leaving until you are released by the homeowner (and you get to listen to some loud sirens, some gunfire, and the sounds of a pitbull eating a Great Dane at slightly over 125db).0 -
do NOT get brinks - they use proprietary systems that you do NOT own, just lease from Brinks. ONLY brinks can monitor a Brinks system.
We just got Guardian which is a standard Ademco security system that we own and should we choose to cancel it with Guardian, any alarm company (accept Brinks) can monitor it.0 -

IMHO I'd say don't waste your money. In my two years on patrol I've never seen these systems do anything but cause headaches for the homeowners. The money is better spent on quality doors and windows, deadbolts, lighting, motion lighting, landscaping, and a dog. Get all these right and a burglar will move on to the next house.
If you still want extra deterrence, spend $10 on some window stickers that say you have a home security system. I've seen them for sale on the internet and I think they're the best part about those expensive systems.0 -

MOTION SENSORS IN ALL THE ROOMS AND AT EXT. DOORS, BOUGHT THEM AT THE ELECTRONICS STORE ALL HOOKED UP TO A MONITOR IN THE BEDROOM. VERY LOUD SIREN GOES OFF WAKING ME.
AR-15 AND SIG 40s&w IN THE CORNER GOING TO KEEP THEM THERE UNTIL COPS SHOW.

CZ, Croatian XD, AK, Mauser, Tanfoglio, Tokarev (in fact I have two Tokarev security systems), you ger fine European worksmanship and great reliability.0 -

Well, I am planning to get a new security System: Ruger P89.
Heard a lot of good things about it.
As for many other US systems, I dislike them. Even when they are good enough, they are more expensive then European made, and not nesessarily better.
For example, I question that PTR-91 is worse then Springfield M1A.
I question that Taurus 608 revolver is worse then S&W (though I like handle on S&W MUCH better).
Yes, AR-15 and AR-10 are good, but are they THAT MUCH better then Vepr? or (in case of AR-10, then PTR-91)
I doubt that there is any pistol as good as Glock. Tanfoglio and CZ are great too, so is Beretta.
Colt is making the same 1911, which, frankly, I strongly dislike.
I like M1A, love how it shoots, but I like PTR-91 better.
I am very curious to see the new Kel-Tec rifle, hoping it will get good reviews so I can purchase it.
It ain't where it was made, it is all about "Bang for the buck".
Why should I buy S&W when CZ is cheaper and just as good?
Why should I buy AR-10 when for the same amount of money I can buy GERMAN ENGINEERED PTR-91???
If in rifles, there are some VERY good US made rifles (AR10 AR15, for example) which, thanx to the bad importation laws are as expensive as imported ones, I see no reason why NOT to buy them. I am just a PTR-91 fan more then I am an M14 fan.
However, in field of pistols, US companies are not ahead of the competition by any means. CZ, Glock, Taurus, Beretta, Tanfoglio (planning to get it in 10mm), they are no worse, and usually much cheaper then S&W and Ruger. Sure, we have Springfield XD, except it is Croatian pistol. And even XD is not better then Glock, for example.0 -
