Not the purpose of my post.

Texas winning independence is being ignored or is part of a plan to erase it from everyone's memory, while Cinco de Mayo, Mexico's defeat of the French, will be widely celebrated and covered in the media. It isn't even an American event, but it will be celebrated in our country by millions.

    PEOPLE: WE'RE LOSING OUR HERITAGE!

I did see a couple short TV segments with some San Jacinto battle re-enactors, advertising the events but I think the problem most locals have with visiting the monument for the celebration and re-enactment is that there is not enough parking, people don't like to park 20 mins away and have to shuttle bus in. or course it would be a shame to lose all that battlefield space for more parking, but maybe they could build a parking garage. The monument itself is awesome with some really cool miniature battle displays up in the observation deck. In one of the TV segments I saw, they claim they are running out of money for upkeep, I hope the money wasn't mismanaged on expensive shuttle bus contracts...

Thanks for the post and the picture. The last time I was there, the San Jacinto Monument was being remodeled and nwas closed to the public. That's been a great many years back. I'd like to visit it once again.

Actually I understood exactly the purpose of your post. Please re-read my response to your request to "Lets celebrate it!". To be more clear - I "celebrate" Texas daily. In doing so, I believe I promote and perpetuate its proud history - and not the PC version...
