Danish right-wing MP resigns after being singing Nazi songs
Copenhagen (dpa) - Danish member of parliament, Morten Messerschmidt, 26, of the right-wing Danish Peoples Party (DVP) party has resigned after he was caught singing Nazi songs and engaging in Nazi salutes, the Danish BT newspaper reported Monday.
According to BT, Messerschimdt, who has been previously convicted for racist offences, resigned in order to spare his party any further aggravation.
The government of Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen is dependent on the DVP's support for a parliamentary majority.
BT reported the previous week that at a celebration to mark the opening of Copenhagen's Tivoli amusement park, Messerschimdt drunkenly sang a Nazi song and made the Nazi salute, saying "Heil Hitler" and "Sieg Heil" with his right arm raised.
The member of parliament denied the report, saying that he was so drunk that he remembered nothing.
Messerschmidt was sentenced to 14 day's prison in 2003 for a party poster campaign in which multicultural societies where equated with gang rape and gang criminality.
At least two other leading DVP politicians have made headlines recently with DVP member of parliament and pastor, Soeren Krarup, declaring that homosexuals were "handicapped."
European Parliamentary Member Mogens Camre said that an Islamic parliamentary candidate needed psychiatric treatment for wearing a head scarf.
The liberal Left party of Rasmussen has rejected the remarks without issuing any threats of consequences. The DVP leader Pia Kjaersgaard has sent notes of warning to the three politicians.

A man named Messerschmidt.. drunk... singing Nazi-songs ..... and saluting Hitler with "Sieg Heil"... that is just not a smart thing to do as a Member of Parliament..
