    BR here...

Everyone is saying its the illegals...I disagree....its the insurance companies driving the cost up....

POint being, find out from your insurance just how much a mammogram costs....The radiology company charges over 250 bucks for a mammogram to be done on someone who HAS INSURANCE...

The same company charges non-insured patients a different price and that price is

    40 BUCKS...

Oh yes, 40 bucks as compared to over 250.....so every illegal that has a mammogram is paying 40 bucks, BUT everyone that has insurance pays a whopping 250 plus...Now you tell me who is getting screwed...Its not illegals who are driving the cost up, its YOUR OWN INSURANCE COMPANY....

A friend of mine, US citizen, no health insurance pays 40 bucks for her mammogram...Mine?????? over 250....

She went on to have a compression test, same as I did...her cost? 60 bucks....
    Mine?...over 500

Wasn't going to weigh in on this, other than to make a joke about your sarcasm (of which I approve), but the more replies I read to your post, the more amazed I am at how crystal-clear-cut life is for so many people. I don't ask for anything to be easy, but once, just once, it'd be cool to be able to feel so Godalmighty right about anything, as some people do about everything.

My dad worked his butt off his whole life, starting at age 14. Never had insurance, that I know of, till very late in life. Now my mom's stuck working at Wal-Mart (otherwise known as The Portal To Hell), for the insurance, because my dad's got pancreatic cancer and needs every bit of help he can get to even have a slim fighting chance of dying of old age. Us kids help out, as we can, but, in my case, my regular employment pays about 3/4 of my monthly bills. Odd jobs for odd people cover the rest -- and the occasional use of a credit card I took custody of in my recent divorce. This card does a tightrope act on the edge of maxing out, that scares the living bejeebers out of me when I have the time and energy to actually be scared at all. So, I'm not much help to the folks, other than to be long-since out of their house and needing zilch from them, materially.

I have health insurance, through my job. I make very little use of it, because most of my ailments are in the form of injuries which I usually suffer due to carelessness, and I'm too proud to ask for help with a problem I created for myself. On the plus side, I'm a wiz at splinting fingers and staunching major bleeding -- I might even have need to do so for someone other than myself, one day.

Getting back to my dad -- ultra-loyal American. Hard worker all his life. Won't ask for help, even now. Paid into the system his whole damned life and, when he desperately needed help that wasn't to be had, refused to apply for any form of assistance. Probably couldn't have gotten it anyhow.... Lost pretty much everything he had. As I say, he's got cancer. I know there are programs for the elderly and sick (Medicare, Medicaid, etc -- I know little about these things so I may have called something wrong, there), but the insurance mom has through Wally World seems to do better for them than Gov't programs they've looked into. But, if she gets too old or sick to work....

Anyone out there want to tell me to my face that the man I just described, if one more roll of the dice goes against him, should be left to fall by the wayside and die an ugly, painful death, because his kids are as financially strapped as he is and you're terrified that an illegal alien or welfare addict might benefit as a side effect of some sort of decent Government health care? Seems to me the taxes I pay would be better-spent on something like this than on 90% of the drizzly fecal matter that oozes out of our national and state capitols on a daily basis.

I am not in favor of universal health care, precisely because of the illegals, the freeloaders, and the other parasites which, unfortunately, in a nation of eighty zillion people, will always be with us and figure out ways to use the system. Neither am I in favor of letting all who can't cut it, die, and to Hell with the weaklings anyway. Some ain't weak, or dishonest, or leeches. I just don't know where or how to draw the line between who's deserving, and who's not, and I'm not so simple-minded as to take a variation on the "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" attitude with hard-working citizens of my own country. So, I'd like to see something -- but don't know what -- only know that I don't want to be in Hillary's village and subject to the Bible-thick stack of asinine rules that living there will entail.

Best of luck, 1911. You're one I hope catches a break.

Very sorry to hear about your dad. But I have a question. Do you think that being the man he is, that he would WANT Hilairy care. Knowing what her plans if successful would do to our nation?
Hilairy is a Socialist who is not nearly as interested in helping people thru free healthcare as making them DEPENDENT on the Govt. And thus furthering her socialist goals for our nation.

I don't have ANY coverage, health, dental or otherwise and I STILL say screw Hillarycare and anyone who can't afford medical expenses. It's their problem, not mine, just as my problems are mine and not theirs.

I thought you were/are in the military?

So, just to play devil's advocate here, is that the fault of the insurance companies, or the people who bill the insurance companies?

No. He wouldn't. The point I tried to get across in my last paragraph was that I don't want to see that extreme, any more than the extreme of "the consequences of your choices aren't my problem" being taken by the country as a whole.

My dad would sooner die than accept assistance. As a son who loves and respects his father, I can't take that hard a line in regard to his health, but I would understand his decision to die proudly if it were ever to come down to it.

Our present government, for what it's worth, originally came into being because it was found out the hard way that people won't do a damned thing for one another, or their nation, unless essentially forced to. Pleas for funds and manpower, during the Revolution and the years immediately following, were met by excuses and accusations that "others" weren't doing their fair share, so why should we? A situation many on this forum apparently would fit right into. It is not a liberal theory, but a fact proven by the example of our own history, that there is such a thing as too much independence. Well, now I've gone and lumped myself in with Madison and Hamilton and all those other socialists and leftist weenies who would destroy our country if given half a chance....

And, incidentally, not all "life choices" are made by the individual living the life, but I would not expect anyone for whom all things are black and white to grasp that fact of existence. My dad made some poor choices -- other circumstances beyond his control compounded those poor choices into disasters. I understand that. A large part of my being unable to help my parents more than I am, is due to similar mistakes on my part. That doesn't change the fact that my dad worked hard all his life, paying into a system that seems willing and able to help anyone but those who, whether they ask for help or not, need and deserve it.

I expressed sympathy for another's plight, here, and in the process of explaining why I empathize with his situation I may have seemed to be asking for the sympathy of others. No. I'm sorry I gave that impression and perhaps made someone uncomfortable enough to feel like he had to explain that, while he's sympathetic, it isn't his problem. Save it. You're right. It's not your problem.

Apparently the decent people of this country are only expected to be of help to one another when it comes to gun control and zombies.

In the space of time since my last post, I took my dogs for a walk, got some air, got rained on a bit, and cleared my head. So:

With no sarcasm or bitterness, I have to admit that it's probably not within human power to come up with a solution to the problem of health care in this country, that would be acceptable to the likes of my father, me, or the majority of the very good people on this forum. I apologize that fear, frustration, and anger caused this Mongrel to snarl at people with whom, basically, I fully agree. Bad dog.

I forget, also, that in my life things have a tendency to work out -- not always as I like or wish, but as they should. I need to be more accepting of this and show more faith. When mom's efforts fall short or have to end, one way or another we, by the grace of God, will work it out.

You're not alone there buddy, but that is what we are left with. I can sympathize. My sister in my case.
