New Strategy in Iraq?
Let's face it, I'm tired of hearing that we can't possibly win, seeing footage of masked terrorists wielding RPGs against our troops, and the never-ending parade of ex-thisorthat military folk denigrating our mission.
Since Ahmad Shah Massoud (our greatest hope in Afghanistan, and leader of the Northern Alliance) was taken out by terrorists posing as "journalists", there has been a strained sort of one upmanship in the region as regards which group will keep fighting the terrs/Taliban.
Why not give a few SFers a camera, a "press" van and let them go interview some of the leaders of the "resistance"? They are obviously the best-equipped to deal these mullets a good hand, and the terrs wouldn't know what hit them.
"Real" journalists would then be forced to remember what happened to Daniel Berg, et al, and maybe stop acting like the weasels they are, and report what's really happening over there with the true objectivity they are supposed to have, instead of the "Blame America First" crap they've been spewing since the start of GWOT.
Maybe if the reporters had to think about what the consequences of their actions might be (when they instill pride and hope in the terrs through their one-eyed view of the war); they MIGHT just reconsider slanting their reportage.
Then again,they're just reporters, doing what they think is right, bringing down the most powerful and prosperous Country on Earth to support their idiotic Socialist ideals.

I haven't seen reference to it here yet -I haven't been looking, really- but Bush is supposed to request another 20,000 troops and go for broke. he has to ask congress. I think he's going to give a speech on tv about it sometime soon. if what I heard is correct. they're going to clean house starting with baghdad. 0 -
I'm sure that would violate some sort of rule of warfare (which the other side does not abide by) and you'd hear the whining of the Usual Suspects in the process.
Of course, this is a great idea, but my guess is that it would only work once or twice before the enemy caught on. These guys are many things, but they're not entirely stupid.

isnt it funny how a white kid from virginia was able to penetrate the taliban and meet bin laden but the CIA couldnt ? it seems like everyday ABC, CNN, CBS and others are getting interviews with al-qeada leaders in iraq. 0 -
To penetrate any terror cell, you have to commit serious crimes. Regardless of what you may read in spy novels or in the media, the CIA or any other government agency is not allowed to do that. They operate according to what their lawyers tell them is legal. So, it is very difficult to penetrate terror organizations. 0 -

AH yes, lawyers. Sounds as though the lawyer division is a huge advisory department in the CIA. I suspect Iran/Contra changed a lot at the CIA.0 -

I think the idea have merit, but perhaps this is the reason why Mohammad Ommar has not been seen by anyone for years. He doesn't talk to journalists.
Perhaps I have an idea that has more merit. Maybe the NSA and CIA should spend more time listening to, tracking, and monitoring CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC. Perhaps spying on the reporters that sympathize could bring in some useful information. Plus this is lagal.0 -
Didn't we invade Iraq to get rid of Saddam and to bring American-style democracy to them (even if at the point of a bayonet)?
And haven't we done that?
One would think the Iraqis would be so grateful to us they would beg us to take their oil as a small sign of gratitude.
