Three things to keep in mind

If folks would keep these three things in mind, I think we'd be better off as a country and society today.

1) Be aware of your accomplishments.

2) Be aware of your shortcomings.

and

3) Work to improve both.



Without knowledge of the first, you could be called ignorant.

Without knowledge of the second, you could be called delusional.

Without knowledge of the first two, you could be called aimless.

And without engaging in the third, you could be called lazy.

Very few people possessed of any of these failings are likely to succeed.

I got to thinking about this as I was reading the posts about race and politics and it struck me that a great many people are either too quick to claim pride for something they had no hand in or assign blame for something that is entirely their fault. Whether they're politicians or "community leaders" (what a ridiculous and self-aggrandizing term) or whoever, very few people are willing to accept the good and the bad of themselves. And so what we're stuck with is a persecution culture that states it's never our fault... and without the ability to take responsibility for our actions, there can be no progress.
