Dreamboat Annie...(rant)
I'm sitting here watching/listening to DirectTVs reprise of Heart's first album "Dreamboat Annie". It's recorded in front of a live audience with Nancy and Ann Wilson belting it out every bit as strongly as they ever did. It is the FIRST time that the complete album has been performed live - ever.
And I wonder... where did the last 40 years GO !!
You young guys - make lots of memories - record them indelibly in your brain, because... in 40 years you'll be me, looking back at what you coulda, shoulda, woulda done with your life... if only...
Carve into your head and heart every moment of adrenaline, romance, music, love and fun. The bad times you are having or may have, will fade with time, you will always have the good times, when you shift into thousand yard stare and your mind flashes the stop-motion film of who you are and how you got there, in your head - color, sound and 3D.
Try not to do drugs and try not to be too drunk too often - not because those things are immoral or bad for you - although they are - but because, when you are looking through the big end of the scope into your past, your recollections will be crystal clear. and you can live them in full, again.
Cherish every woman/girl, every accurate firearm, every fast car and bike, every sweet boat, every drop of sweat shed working. And, ABOVE ALL, cherish your Children. Never forget that they are you - projected into the vast endless, unknown haze of the future.
NOW is all you have - and suddenly it becomes THEN. Grab life while you are living it. You other codgers know what I'm talking about - when your hair is gone, your muscles like mush, your eyes a little hazy, and the rest of what comes with your life winding down - you can drift off and be 20 again, 30 again, and a young 40 again.
Tell your Kids your stories. They need to know who you are.

Sound wisdom.....should be passed out to every high school graduate this Spring.....nothin' wrong with nostalgia...yer 'spose ta have it ta get through bein' old, which ain't fer sissies. My
memories help me sleep at night. I'll use them and musings just like yours to advise my grand kids as to how to cope with the stress of the suck world they're gonna inherit thanks largely to the airheads in Washington.....I hope they all have as many passions as I do.
Lets all remember to hoist a few ice cubes to the boys on watch.0 -

Hmmmmm. I agree somewhat and I also disagree. I'm 62 and the good
times are still rollin. I think if you allow yourself to fall into a rut that it's
hard to climb out. I try to keep myself challenged and busy. If you're
married ... appreciate the good lady! If you're not, find a good lady. Life
is a lot more fun when you share it than bumping along solo. I've always
been careful to plan out my destination and how I expect(ed) to get there
and so far it's paid off. Like Sinatra used to say (sing) when you're down,
pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again!
... it's always worked for me (us).

I have to agree with zipperzap. My friend who is 51 was just here and I told him I just turned 54 last week. He said I act more like I'm 21. My brother who standing there said more like 12.
Last year I went class 4 and 5 white water rafting on the gaully,a western cribbean cruise,hunting in colorado and bluefin tuna fishing in Hatteras with the wife,sons,daughters and friends.
Memories are great. I plan on making a bunch more.0 -
You guys are totally right.
I don't think I said anything about my life being over, just that one should grab ahold of life as it happens.
These thoughts come to my mind when an event reminds me of what a physical wreck I am today.
