second premier...
well this is the other stock i was playing with this weekend.
you can see the novice "ooops's" here and there, but its getting fewer all the time.
i think my biggest problem is i get to trying to hurry because of only haveing the tools for the weekend, and so much other crap that has to be done in the same time frame, sigh. didnt get the p grip done on one side cause i forced myself to say the heck with trying to hurry...and less ooops's!
cant wait for the tax man to send my money so i can get my won tools, full set!
this one i used a carved border, shops i checked with web sites are chargeing $450 and up for this type because of the time involved

it also wraps around the bottom, more time! especailly difficult to learn cause your trying to keep a PERFECTLY STAIGHT LINE as you go around compound curves...

Lookin' good.[:)] 0 -
Draw lines for a guide on the curves then a thin piece of tape as a guide. Just like taping striping on cars that will have painted striping on. 0 -
Oh looking good, sorry.[:)] 0 -
I want to see what you do when you have your own tools, and can take your time, if this is what you do in a hurry.
You'll get better. [;)]0 -

well had my mentor take a look at em this morning, he was quite happy, which of course made my day!
asked me if maybe i woudnt want to just work in his shop.
tax garbage sent, now the wait so i can send for my tools.
will then be able to do 16, 18 and 20 line per inch, as well as the french check.
he also agreed that the "rush" mentality is probably the biggest thing screwing me up. to forget trying to finish a peice and just take my time and relax...the reason i started doin this to begin with since it was kinda "take your time/careful work" compared to the mad rush all day at work.
soon as i feel like i got it will let y'all know so you can send all your checkering work to me! and i guess ill have to give a G.B. discountof some kind0 -
Looks good! 0 -
Looks good to me.......You should have seen my first attempt at checkering about 50 years ago. When I showed it to my dad, he said, "I see we still have a rat chewing problem out in the barn, better set some traps". [:(][:(]
