HELP with Remington 11-87.

I have not used my rifled slug barrel in years. I took off my turkey barrel, put the slug barrel on and the action will not close all the way. My manual that came with the barrel is put away from when we moved and I cannot get to it right now. I vaguely remember removing a part (possibly the piston seal) when using the rifled slug barrel but I don't remember. Can someone help? I need to get it sighted in for the next deer season here. Thanks.

    This is just a guess, but take off the slug barrel and check if there is a rubber gas ring around the gas ports in the round cylinder under the barrel. May be one there from previous use and with another one on the mag tube, not enough room to close.

    yeah, only one rubber gas ring. when the action is not closing...it is not closing by about 1/2". When I remove the piston/seal it closes and functions perfectly.

    funny you mention the 11-48 I have one that is not properly ejecting shells. Any hints Fishkiller?? sorry didn't mean to hijack

    It`s been awhile since I`ve messed with one,but try this. Cuss at it,then make sure the slide is pulled back. I remember having that problem myself and I think it was just the slide needing to be back,but a little cussing won`t hurt too.

    OX: The gas operated 1100 and the 11-87 are very tempermental about DIRT: also if after a good cleaning make sure you are not using low recoil shells, Make sure the gas ports in the barrel are cleaned out. If this doesnt stop the problem take off the stock and check the Spring Follower in the recoil spring tube.. If it is alluminum change to a steel one..

    Once in a great while unburnt powder and crap will work it's way into the recoil spring recess in the buttstock and slow the blot and carrier just enough to cause a failure to eject or rechamber the next round. If the problem is intermittent then that is the likely cause. It happens in brand new guns from saw dust and factory grease and it happens in old guns from many shells and simple exposure.
