True story, told to me by the young man's father.
The youngster is in service, and having a hard time of it. He is called before his commanding officer and told, "You are a disgusting fat slob, and a disgrace to this outfit. I am ashamed to have you in my command. What do you have to say for yourself?"
"I can live with that, sir."

I left for recruit training in October of 1980.
We were "ordered" to file for an absentee ballot.
#1 It was much too late to get an absentee ballot by mail.
#2 If I had wanted to vote by absentee ballot I certainly would have done so before I shipped out.
#3 I didn't really have a preference between the peanut farmer or the actor and I knew absolutely nothing about local politics in terms of issues, offices, or candidates.
When I declined to do the paperwork I ended up doing bends & thrusts outside while the rest of the recruits sat in the air conditioned class room.0 -
