egalitarian society - for it or against it?
Just a little brain teaser and thought provoker.
So this is what they think it is in some parts of Pakistan - sort of sounds like what the US is trying to achieve (affirmative action, kinder gentler nation, equality of all regardless of skill or hard work. Will it really solve the problems or just make us a weaker society?:
The contemporary meaning of egalitarian society (or state) does not mean that all shall have exactly the same socioeconomic level. It also does not reflect communism or socialism. Rather, the concept of egalitarian society denotes that all people should enjoy a decent life. A society is not egalitarian if a segment of a society enjoy all sorts of luxuries and others are deprived of basic facilities. Egalitarian societies are governed by rule of law that applies to all without considering their position in the society. Some characteristics of the Egalitarian society or state are given below:
*
Does not discriminate any individual on the basis of gender, cast, creed, religion, sect, education level, social status or color.
*
People are conscious for justice and despise injustice.
*
People raise voice against injustice even if it is done by their close friend (s) or blood-relation (s).
*
People do not strive for individual benefits on the expense of collective benefits.
* Opportunity for all without any prejudice and bias.
* All people are respected as human beings irrespective of their level of education and wealth.
* All professions are respected.
* The state looks after old, handicaps and unemployed.
* Freedom of speech. People are free to air their views on any topic and issue.
* Capitalist class is controlled to serve interest of their employees and poor.
* Labor Organizations and Unions are encouraged to negotiate terms of employment with capitalist class.
* It is rule oriented and all institutions execute their duties as defined in the law.
* Transparency of government institution is demanded.
*
Merit is strictly followed in hiring people in government job.
* Those who do not follow doctrine of the system and laws of the institutions get exemplary punishment according to the law.
* In egalitarian society, a weird salary structure as it is prevailing in Pakistan is not tolerated. For example, a soldier of the army is living hand to mouth and a general is having luxurious life even after retirement.
