Life is short when the kids don't listen to the parents. A hunting buddy's girlfriend ( parent ) is not so happy. 18 yr old was speeding and alcohol was a factor. He had wrecked 3 cars, had 2 DUI's. Sunday night he hit a tree at high speed and was killed. Funeral is Thurs.

He does, but maybe He got tired of looking after this one. For crying out loud, TWO DUIs at 18?????!!!!! That is an indicator of a problem, habitual behavior. This kid had many close calls before the odds caught up with him.0 -
It is interesting that when young male adults prove that they are too imature to be driving that adults don't have the "common sense" to take away the keys and stop them from driving. Parents just keep buying them cars and hope and pray they will grow up.
My son wrecked his first car, then our Jeep, and I just decided that his driving career was over! Let him save his money and buy his own car.
Then his Mom bought him a new car, not paying attention to my attempts to slow him down, he pretty much trashed that car and she had to repo the car within four months.
So he did not drive for quite a while and learned a hard lesson. Had to buy his own junker then and I noticed that he seems to treat things that he has to buy on his own better than things provided by others.
Its is very sad that the young man that is discussed in this thread did not survive. I imagine his parents are now driving themselves crazy thinking of all the ways they might have prevented this final act.[:0][:0]0 -

It sometimes seems to me a miracle that any of us survive adolescence. It does not help when parents cannot make mature decisions either. A neighbor kid died when he wrecked a car at 13, driving with his fathers permission.0 -

The number of retarded things I did between the ages of say, birth and about 24 or 25, I'm frankly amazed that I survived or came out as unscathed as I did.0 -

Driver jailed for Road Ranger death
TAMPA -- (AP) -- A man who was driving drunk when he hit and killed a Road Ranger helping another motorist on Interstate 275 last year was sentenced to 11 ? years in prison.
Benjamin J. Green, 32, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to driving under the influence-manslaughter. He killed 66-year-old Don Bradshaw, a retired Coast Guardsman who had begun a second career helping motorists in trouble as part of the state's Road Ranger program.
Bradshaw was putting traffic cones and flares along I-275 after a crash in the early morning hours of March 5, 2006. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said traffic backed up and Green tried to pass the stopped cars. He hit the brakes and skidded into Bradshaw, who died on the highway.
Green's blood-alcohol percentage was 0.146 at the time of the crash. The legal limit is 0.08.
Green read a letter in court saying that he wasn't speeding or driving recklessly. He said a truck in front of him merged into another lane, and he didn't see the traffic cones and Bradshaw until it was too late.
Bradshaw's family didn't buy it.
Holding a picture of his father, Don Bradshaw Jr. scolded Green.

I'm thinking that after a DUI the points should be cut in half permanently. After 1 DUI you only get 6 points after the second you get 3. You would still have to earn the regular amount of points to get your license back. This will not hurt drivers who do it once and get their act together. It will put the bite on repeat offenders.0 -
We have DWI offenders with 17, 19, 23 arrests. No license, but they somehow get cars. We need judges to get them off the streets and into prison until they are ready to get serious about rehab. 0 -

I'm sorry for her loss. Her kid might have been trouble, but one must wonder why he was engaging in such self-destructive behavior. I'm not going to point fingers or accuse anyone or anything other than bad circumstances, but wrecking one car is an accident born of youthful indiscretion - wrecking three is a suicidal pattern.
Something told this kid his life wasn't worth preserving. And I feel sorry for him and the ones he left behind.0 -
Well, considering about 40,000 people each year are killed in the USA during auto accidents... and some of those are innocent drivers who wear their seat belts. If people are going to die anyway, I'd rather it be the dale earnhardt's and young "brave" ones - at least they are stupid enough to take the risk... as opposed to joe shmoe who is just trying to drive to work 0 -

I didn't ask for any sympathy. I am glad he didn't harm anyone but himself.
