Elk Hunting in Northern Idaho...PICS
Here are some pics of our hunt the other day. We climbed 5300+ feet this day and hiked 7+ miles all over the mountain looking for the elk. We found more than a couple.
...And yes, I do mean climbed:

This mountain peak is at least 2000 yards away from where we were. We called a bull and his herd of cows over this ridge and down into the draw between us...and then went after him:
Here's a zoomed in shot of the bull and his cows going back across the ridge:
Here I am eating lunch:
All in all, a great hunt. We called in two seperate bulls...along with the herd bull and his cows. Great day...awesome country!

so did you end up getting any elk ?
Not yet...I've had a 900+ lb animal standing 20 yards away, wanting to stomp me in the ground or screw me...just too dark to shoot. We've called in several others...just no luck yet.
A Tag (archery) goes out on Sunday and does not come back in until the 24th...[:(]0 -

Not far from it...this is actually Lake Pend Oreille. Preist Lake is NW of here...or maybe just west...I'd have to look on the map. How do you know the area?[:)]
I have a friend who bought a house near Preist lake last year and he took some pics that looked similar to yours.
He stays at the house but drives 30 minutes back into Washington to hunt.
If I don't get drawn for Montana next year I am going to go hunt Wyoming or Idaho.
I have a friend who left for Wyoming yesterday and he said the unit they hunt had 134 out of state tags left over so you could basically walk into a sporting good store and buy one.0 -

great photos of a great place.Almost moved there a couple of years ago,to Ponderay unfortunately the deal fell thru and the market went south here in Northern cal.Wife wantsto move to Boise as a lot of her business is there but I love the Sandpoint area,nice area and very nice people.Hoping to convince my wife thats where should go to when we move. 0 -
