One more Mauser Topic/Question.

Our local Big 5 is selling Yugo M24/47 8MMs for $99.99.
Are these large ring actions, and should a guy snag a couple to have the actions for rifle projects at a later date?
Thanks for any input.

  I THINK the M24s are small ring actions, but I could be wrong. at that price I'd snag a couple just to shoot, though. Good price if they're in good condition.

  The Mauser M24/47 is an Intermediate length Large Ring Mauser rifle built in 1924 and refurbished in 1947.
  
  I see them listed from $99 to $119 so your right at the lowest I've seen. These actions will not fit a stock made for the standard length Mauser M98 since the action is shorter.

  So about that length....Will they handle a 30-06 length round?

  Not without some modification. The action length will handle the '06 cartridge length but the magazine has to be lengthtened.
  
  M24/47 magazine length = 3.232"
  
  30-06 Springfield = 3.340"
  
  Here are the dimensions:
  
  Action OAL: 8.500
  Receiver screws, center to center: 7.620"
  Bolt body length: 6.115"
  Magazine length: 3.232"
  Recvr ring dia: 1.410", large ring
  Barrel shank dia: 1.100", large shank, 12 TPI.
  
  As opposed to the standard length Mauser:
  
  Action OAL: 8.750"
  Recvr screws, center to center: 7.835"
  Bolt body length: 6.370"
  Magazine length: 3.315"
  Receiver ring dia: 1.410" large ring
  Barrel shank dia: 1.100" large shank, 12 TPI.
  (even these get 'stretched' for 30-06)

  Is 8mm a little too big for them elusive pigs down your way????[:D][:D][:D] We'll have to meet about half way sometime (Pt. Townsend) and shoot up some surplus 8mm

  I don't think anything is to big for those pigs is it? If it is I got the bayonet, that should make it more challenging. I need to look into hunting those things. I still haven't done that.
