My early Fathers Day gift...to my Dad
My dad, eighty six years old, a WWII vet, thirty five year FBI retiree, came to spend the weekend with my family. My older brother also was here. We sons had purchased a milspec 1911 to give to him on Fathers Day. He began to relate one of his many stories and eventually was working towards an episode we had heard several times before. It involved a 1911.
My brother and I made eye contact and nodded to each other...this would be the perfect time to give him his present. I went to get the gun. Just as he's getting to the part in his story where he is handed a 1911, I came up behind him and said:
"Did it look anything like this one?"

One of the few times I've seen my very talkative father speechless.
The weekend was perfect. Topped it off with a day at a gun show where he found a S&W K22 he'd wanted.
Thanks dad.

Good story.
I had given thought to buying an M1 Carbine for my wife's grandfather. He's not really anti-gun, but doesn't like them.
He saw some of the toughest fighting in the Pacific during WWII. I thought he may like to plug a few rounds out of a carbine after some 60+ years.
He doesn't have a lot of time left(sadly), he's such a good person and a complete sweetheart. He had a stroke about 3yrs ago at the fault of a doctor's order. Now he's stuck with a walker and can't do the things he used to. He was 80 at the time of the stroke and used to build birdhouses, pushmow the lawn, etc. They've been married for some 66+ years.0 -

Wow 86 yrs old and getting a gift like that for fathers day....
Most sons would be having freaking fist fight the back yard to see who got what after he was gone.
You guys may have a great dad, but I'm thinking he's thinking he has a couple great sons about now....
I am as impressed as I can possibly be.
