Cabelas NEw Store Was A Big Dissapointment
I went to Cabelas to get some christmas presents and what a dissapointment it was.
NONE of the sales flyer stuff was in the store.
They had ridiculous prices in the sales flyer like 100.00 items that would be 50.00, but when you get to the store the only thing available was the delux versions at full price.
The staff were all clueless when I had questions.
The store was packed with typical Christmas shoppers who would barge right in front of me while I was standing a foot away from a rack with stuff I was looking at (not Cabelas fault).
I finally just suggested to the people I was with that we go to the Cabelas resturaunt to eat and relax and when we get upstairs the line was 100 yards long.

This is something Ive heard alot of folks here say. I had always wanted to go to one of their stores. Im thinking now I havent missed that much?? 0 -
You haven't missed much if you haven't been there. Prices are way up there but they got a lot to look at. Just not much for me to but 0 -
We had one open a couple of years ago and I learned a few things.
Never go on the weekend.
Never go between Black Fri and New Years.
Know what you want b4 you go and check prices.
Always be there at opening time.
Don't expect to get help from reps.
The catalouge, website, and store are ran independent of each other and prices vary alot. I bought a $200 backpack last year, when I got home I wanted to send a link to some friends only to find it $50 cheaper! [}:)] Next day I went back with printout in hand to get my $50 back! +1...great selection of new guns, but high priced. The used gun prices are sky high, gun library is cool to look at, but overpriced, even for the collectors stuff.
Funny how when you're at the gun counter you can smell cookies baking...

If you think Cabelas was that bad. You should try Walmart.
I would not go in a Walmart to take a piss let alone buy anything they have. Drove by one today on the way home and and saw two fights in the parking lot. I could just imagine what it was like inside the place.
I like Cabelas a lot and spend a lot of money there. For I think that the quality of their products is worth the little extra that you pay. Plus you got to remember. Cabelas is an outfitter first and not a retail store.0 -
Legitimate retailer will issue a "raincheck" for out of stock sale items. Cabelas?? 0 -

Guess you guys haven't shopped at the Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan. It has a well informed, intelligent and mature staff dedicated to assisting the customer. I have always felt welcomed at the store and assisted in every way when I have shopped there. It really is nice to have a staff member fully answer a question rather than a zit-faced teenager say, "Ah dunno dude...that's a hard one." As far as the gun library is concerned, you are free to make offers on the collector pieces that they have to offer. The prices on the items in the gun library are very flexible. Finally I would say that some of the magic that was Cabela's might have diminished when the family sold the business a few years ago....but the new owners are at least attempting to maintain the standards that were Cabela's. Well , thats what you get , find a small local dealer who knows whats going on and has real gun knowledge and Customer Service as it should be (like my shop),and buy,trade there !!!!

i am really surprised you or anyone could be dissappointed visiting a cabelas store . these places are awesome , often shadowing other local tourist destinations . i agree they are very pricey but what outfitter isn't.fact is if you need one they will have it .try there bargin cave it's full of good deals .
all stores this time of year are busy , picked over and full of rude shoppers . it is the chistmas chrisis . gotta get lil joey the black baseball mit or else .
give cabelas another chance when things quiet down ,maybe in march or so . remember the post xmas returns will take at least a month .
next year get your xmas shoping done early ,it will be more fun .

About a year ago I wrote to the local Cabela's complaining about the lack of pricing on much of their product. At that time probably 1/3-1/4 of their merchandise had neither a pricing tag on the product or on the shelf and a lot of the stuff that was tagged rang up wrong. Sure they had the price check scanners spread throughout the store but having to check multiple items is a pain. I got a phone call response and the next time I went in everything was priced. That lasted about 6 months and now it is back to the way it was.I'm begining to wonder if it isn't just part of their sales strategy but I for one will not buy something without knowing the price beforehand.Now I don't even bother with the things that are not priced and it's costing them some business. 0 -
New one opened up here in IL. I gotta say they have everything you could immagine or want. Brad and I spent a good 3.5 hours looking around the store. I was impressed by the used long guns that were out in the open for anyone to handle. I think the store will go a long way for gun rights in IL. Especially for getting youth into firearms. Saw alot of kids begging their yuppy soccer moms to buy them a shotgun.
Turns out Crook County wants them out of the county. Too many guns pissing off the liberal traitor maginas.0 -
I have been buying stuff from Cabelas for years from the catalogue and online and have been completly satisfied so when I planned and made the 1 hour drive with their sales flyer stuff in mind and when I get there everything on the sales flyer was gone.
Everything.
I didn't bother to ask for a rain check but they had stuff on the flyer 50% off the normal price and I am convinces it was just a lure to get people to drive down to the store at Christmas time.
I did climb around in thier 60,000.00 boats with my muddy boots though[:D]0 -
Even when I get the sales flyer in the mail and call that day most of the time they're out already?
Kind of POs me so I don't get too excited anymore about good deals when the flyer comes.0 -
I have never had the opportunity to visit a Cabellas. I live in the heart of Bass Pro Shops territory and they do everything in their power to keep competition out. 0 -
I shop at the Mitchell, SD Cabelas and am very happy with the company. They also have an excellent return policy.
I don't mind paying for good service. The workers are also knowledgeable. Cableas recruits local hunters and fishers to work. They also train them.
The prices are a premium but they should be for quality products with good service. If your whining about prices go to Wal-Mart.
Oh-I forgot Wal-Mart don't carry 1% of the outdoor stuff Cabelas does. Neither does any mom and pop store.0 -
I've also shopped at Cabela's for years. Great products and great return policy. As posted above, if you want cheap prices and cheap stuff, go to Wal-Mart.
As for the fliers, IIRC, they are usually for items that are of limited stock - close-outs and odd sizes. I've looked at many of them and not seen my size. But, I've looked at many of them and got great deals too.0 -

I have had nothing but good luck with cabelas in owatona, mn over the years. Had a coupon last week I wanted to use for a piece of fishing electronics, called friday night(I live an hour and a half away from them) to make sure they had what I wanted in stock, they had one left and they offered to put it on hold in customer service area for me. I notice that there isn't alot of younger people working at this store more older experienced people. Maybe location, managment???? 0
