Need advice on auto tint removal
What is the best way to remove them, esp one with a rear defroster? A sharp razor blade might work but not on the defroster portion. Thank you in advance for your advice.

As you peel it up, spray a fine mist of WD40 under the lifted edge, it'll help zip it off. 0 -

It's done with an amonia based cleaner like Windex w/ammonia.
Our window film guys use it all the time.0 -
We took a hairdryer, one person on inside cuts till you get a peel, then your take and heat the glass so the stuff gets hot, and kinda melts the glue, and you just heat it till it comes off then you take Goof-off and clean the residue off
thats what we did0 -
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
As a former auto glass installer I dealt with tinting alot.....
DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T WANNA DAMAGE YOUR CAR!!!!!!
get a professional.
yes they use heat guns, but if you don't know what you're doing you WILL MELT the plastic trim, the carpeting under the back glass (i've seen it catch fire because the guy kept the heat gun on it too long), razor blades will slip and you WILL cut the trim panels or the headliner, or yourself. and absolutely DO NOT use a razor blade on the back glass. You will not only remove the coating from the defroster strips but you can completely remove the defroster leads. Not to mention that razor blade can and do scratch the glass. Scratches on the windshield (laminated safety glass) can be removed, but on the door glasses and the back glass it becomes nearly impossible as they are made from tempered glass. Tempered is designed to shatter, the heat produced from the polishing will warp the glass and , if heated in one are too much, WILL EXPLODE. I've had it happen.
Many tinting shops work with auto glass guys and have them remove all the glass from the car first then remove the films. some of the more experienced ones can do it without removing the glass. the best adhesive remover is 3M adhesive remover. It has a very strong odor (in a confined space it will make you dizzy and nauseasous unless you wear a respirator)and will discolor plastics and remove the clear coat from a paint job.
If you feel like doing it yourself, don't. get a professional.
just my experienced opinion.0 -
