Assault gun ban in house we must act
H.R. 1022 is a bill that is now in the House of Representatives in Washington, DC. It is to "reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes". You may read H.R. 1022 at http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=110_cong_bills&docid=f:h1022ih.txt.pdf This bill has been introduced by McCarthy of New York and is now in the Committe of the Judiciary. We need to write to the Judiciary committee members to oppose the passage of this bill. You may view the list of House Judiciary Committee members at http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMembership.aspx Even though they call this bill an "assault weapons ban" it goes way beyond that. Please read the bill. Do you want your magazine that holds more than 10 rounds to be illegal? Read the bill. I urge you all to take action on this and communicate to our lawmakers. Gun control does not stop crime! [:(!][V][:(!][V]

We, as individuals participating on this forum, need some guidance from someone who is knowledgeable about creating maximum impact upon political decisions. IMHO, a primary goal of almost any politician is reelection. Therefore, communication from constituents (their voters) is most effective. Mass mailing to persons who do not represent "you" may not have the same effect as a directed campaign to get communications to those particular individuals who are elected from "your" area.
I am open to suggestions from someone who knows more than I do.0 -

Buschmater - I have heard it even worse than you suggest. If you are not within their district, a volume of communications from "outsiders" can actually have the opposite results. If they believe that their "voters" support their position, a mass of mailings from others only causes them to "dig in." Information from a former state representative in this state. 0 -
By the sounds of it none of you have started calling, writing, and emailing your congressmen? Why not? Don't sit back complaining, get up off your butts and do something.Talk to every gun owner you know, get them to do something. There is about 80 million gun owners in the USA, and it is obvious that the majority did not even vote, they just complained. Even if you don't join the NRA or GOA their web site has the necessary info on how to get ahold of your congressmen, you don't have to join to use this info.Of course joining will help the fight against the proposed AWB because of the size of these organizations. Strength in numbers. GET UP OFF YOUR BUTTS> 0
