That was pretty "chicken". Doesnt the ball have to be hiked between the centers legs? Just wondering!

No, however it just has to be all in one complete motion.

This play would illegal in any HS or college game as there are rules against plays that are not of good sportsmanship.

One example of that is a play several years ago in a college game. At the end of the half, the offensive team lines up like its going to take a knee. Instead, there is a fake knee action, then the ball is thrown down field. Just another example.

What does it teach young boys about sportsmanship and competition? So you win a game. Can you be proud fo the accomplishment?

I also found this variation....run during a High School game. They appeared on Letterman to explain it

According to these kids, the play stood

What is bad about the sportsmanship?

They snapped the ball - he proceeded to take it OVER - but not out, and took it in for the touchdown.

This is what my HS team needs! I think we won 4 games last year, but we had a lousy coach too, now we have a retired NFL player.

I kind of like the play, where one team all huddled up in a circke and giving the ball to someone - when the opposing team came up, they all ran for the end line. [:D]

Noone could see who got the ball and there was great confusion.

I believe it was at kickoff - they catched the ball, huddled up, waited for the other team - broke up in all directions and all ran for it. [:D]

There is nothing wrong with that play. Playing SMART is part of the game.

What is unsportsmanship is when you are ahead and kneeling the ball at the end of the game. This is giving up and should be against the rules. A team should have to PLAY every play or be penalized for it. Real sportsman play the entire game and compete with the opposing team the ENTIRE game.

The opposing team could have backed him up - they had all the time in the world to do that.

Besides - they should have known the play.

    Unsportsmanlike ??
Nah, one team was just smarter than the other.!!!

My point is when a team is on defense and down by less than a touchdown and the offense kneels the ball. They are refusing to play and the ball should be given to the other team in my opinion.

Yeah, I hate it when the winning team doesn't run up the score even more when already ahead by 83 points!

Hilarious! I have no problem with it. You only get away with that one once.

I saw an NFL play some years ago where the quarterback fake handed off and did it so well that everyone thought the ball was in the pile with the players. He tossed it for a touchdown I seem to remember. No different than that!

And what about in baseball when the first or third baseman hides the ball after a pitchers conference and tags out the runner leading off?

That is an illegal play in any form of baseball. Same with fake tagging.

Ha! I had my 13-15 year olds do that a few years ago. It worked twice that year. Other teams tried it on them but, it never worked.

As far as the football play goes, it was legal....and funny.

Shoff14, It's not illegal unless the pitcher actually goes into his pitching motion. Then since he can't complete the motion, it's a balk.

I don't think so. This has been done in the Majors (NL and AL?). The pitcher steps off the mound, has the conference, the 1st baseman takes the ball and walks back with it in his glove. The pitcher remains off the mound and the player tags the runner out. No different that throwing him out. What's illegal about that?

A pitcher cannot touch the rubber without the ball in his possession, any baserunner who has a clue knows you dont lead off untill the pitcher touches the rubber, the hidden ball trick should NEVER EVER work.
