you KNOW you're a redneck when. . .
I'm driving home the other day, sitting in the brutal Beltway traffic on 495. I'm creeping up to the 66W ramp, just crawling along.
Up ahead right at the base of the ramp I see a BIG deer lying there, its fanny pointing at me. I mean, this is a BIG deer. Up in northern Virginia there's no real hunting, so the deer, provided they don't get hit by a car as this one did, grow rather large.
Well, I'm creeping up and I get closer to being alongside it, and I see a pair of nuts that would make a grizzly proud. Wow, I think to myself, this deer probably has one heck of a set of antlers on it. I'm thinking they must be huge.
I slowly roll forward and I realize that I'm right. The deer probably DID have one heck of a set of antlers. Except, you see, somebody has come along and right there on the beltway has sawed the head right off this deer, as cleanly as if done with a bandsaw.
I can just imagine Billy Bob sitting there in his living room, showing off his mount and trying to distract his friends from the tire marks.

I used to see that all the time in Pittsburgh. I actually watched two guys cutting the antlers off of a 6 point on the side of I-79 one time. It cracked me up so bad that I had to pull over. 0 -
I knew a preacher that saw the car ahead of them hit a deer on the interstate. He stopped and him and his wife stuffed the carcass into his VW Rabbit hatchback. 0 -

i've seen whole heads cut off on the side of the road, but i also seen one hit, and put it across the back of my wife's Lincoln drove it home butchered it and ate it, once took my kids to school and found a nice doe as a present in my driveway when i got back 0 -

I have put three deer down that were hit by cars. I took all of them home (after offering to the people that hit them). Remove the damaged meat and make sausage!0 -
had a friend tell this story once " I saw a huge 11 pointer dead on the road today, I mean big!" another friend said " why didn't you cut it's horns off?" reply...............

Back home (Ruidoso, NM) some a$$ shot 6 bull elk and he cut the heads off and left the rest. I had seen this herd and there were big elk in it (350-360 class buls) and little else. What a waste.

My Brother, who would rather drink beer than breathe, had a brother in law that hunted 24/7/365. His BIL called him one night when he was sitting outside by the fire drinking beer, he told him " you will never get a deer doing that". At the same time a car went by and hit a deer and threw it into his yard. He just went over and cut the deers throat. He got a deer that night, his BIL did not. Don 0 -
My brother was on a road south of Abilene one time and came across a deer lying by the road. Thinking that it had been hit by a car, he put it in the back seat of his VW Bug to take to the game warden, who would take it to the Boy's Ranch. After he got back on the road, the deer "woke up". My brother said that he thought he would NEVER get that deer out of the back seat. Really tore up the back of that car! Got really mad when I laughed at him. 0 -
Last night there were 4 deer hit on base. They happened to be on the runway and the object that hit them happened to be a B-52. 0 -

I know a local HP officer that is a road kill fiend. He claims everything he can get his hands on and in his position that is quite a bit. 0 -
I have seen a lot of powder measures, awls and such made from antler. Seems reasonable to take it, even if a little illegal in most states. 0 -
Met one heart-broke dude last year on the highway a few miles from the house. He was driving two cars in front of me on the way to the taxidermist, big 'ol 10 pointer's head sitting on the dog box. (dogs were still in the box, fresh kill...) Well, he goes around the curve and the deer's head falls off the back of the truck, a dump truck hits it before he can get out and retrieve it, rack gets shattered in a million pieces. Didn't have the heart to tell him he was an idiot for not having it in at least a cooler or something!

Story is that a lot of the local truckers who drive in Maine moose country carry a saw so that they can quickly remove antlers and any undamaged meat from moose hit by big trucks. I've seen two road killed moose this year that have been butchered on the spot. One was a big cow that had just the tenderloins neatly removed and the other was a bull that had antlers and a hind quarter missing (looked like chainsaw work to me). 0 -

Dump trucks run for the mines around here, and one day i had the CB on i the house here and heard one of the drivers talking about just hitting a deer and told precisely where...i hoped in the truck, ran up there and sawed off a nice 8pnt rack. Guess i be a redneck.[;)] 0 -

His name didn't happen to be Joe, did it?
There was a pretty widely known 911 call from a guy named Joe who put a "dead" deer in the back seat. Bob & Tom made song about it.0
