adjustable chokes

how are ajustable chokes put on guns are they threaded on or sodered. i have a westernfield 550 made by mossberg that has a 26 inch ajustable choke on it. i'm puting a folding stock on this and i want to cut the barrel down to 18 inches but i would like to keep the ajustable choke on it. or can i buy a new one to put on it. ( choke not new barrel.

  #1 I would recommend 18.5 inches. You just never know when you might have a governmnet official that wouldn't measure exactly the same way you do.
  
  #2 Unscrew your choke all the way off and look at it, that should answer your question.
