There was another thread on the "Flaming bomb 94's" a while back. I'll try to find it.

I think I remember reading a post from Bert H on the expert side that said they were used for stateside guard duty.

I know that they used the Winchester M1895 in 30-06 cal.

The 30-30's were used by MPs' and by prison guards mainly.

I was thinking maybe stockade or PoW camp guard use. The 94s were very popular up until recently for prison duty.

Here are links to a previous discussion initiated by Bert H. regarding US used/issued Winchester Model 94's. The focus was on a suspect auction, I believe the same gun you are referencing, but they have relevant information in them.

My next question of course is "What were they thinking buying up a bunch of 30-30(.30 W.C.F.) rifles when there was already a plentiful supply and tooling to make more of the 1903's?"

Was this a possible 'gut-check' reaction to Mauser winning in Patent court?

    Bert's response:

Most of them ended up in the hands of U.S. Border Patrol agents. Some went to U.S. Federal prisons.
