David, several days ago I made the statement about grabbing my6 wallet and running. You asked if I would bid on your auctions? Of course I would bid on your auctions. I have met you and consider you an honorable man.
I tried to answer this a couple of days ago and after the longest reply I have written, when I went to send it, it disappeared and I have been a little put off until now.
Here is the type "christian" I was referring to.
Several years ago I moved and needed riding mower for larger yard. Being cheap, I opted for a used one. An uncle said he knew a church member who had one for sale. The mower looked great and the seller kept reminding me he was a church goer with my uncle and was a good christian man. I did not ask if he was a christian and church goer, he just kept reminding me he was and that the mower was in excellant shape.
I bought the mower and it seemed to work well until it got in a real bind and then it smoked like the devil and fowled out the spark plugs. After sever bouts with this, I took it to the local repair shop. Guy said yeah, he knew the mower. He had looked at before and told previous owner it would cost more to fix than it was worth. It seems like this guy just lied through his teeth.
Now this may not be a good enough explenation to some or any of you but whenever someone starts telling me how good a christian he is, "I grab my wallet and run like hell."
I had rather do business with an honest atheist than a lying christian.
In all my business dealings, I have NEVER told anyone what my religion is and am not overly concerned what theirs is. They will get honest treatment from me and that is what I hope to get in return.
I do believe there is a God and that is abolut as far as I will go. Tom

I'm sorry to hear of your experience Tom...I've heard several stories like it...it's very similar to how one bad contractor can give all contractors a bad rep...0 -
I know "Christian" business people who will cheat you, but far more of them who will go the "extra mile" to make sure you get your money's worth. 0 -

ECC, in a way, yes. I know I did paint too wide a stroke. I thought with my uncle's OK, he was a good guy. Maybe he just need the money so bad he had to lie about it. It is just that I am now a lot more leery of people who have to tell you how good they are. The more they profess their goodness, the more and deeper I am going to check. Sort of like the feedback system here. Tom

I couldnt agree more....We know of one who says he is a good christian and he will shaft you every chance he gets....His logic is that he is already forgiven, and since he is forgiven, he can do what he wants..
Or anyone that says, "Trust me" .... I dont trust anyone that says "Trust me"..0 -
I believe I would test his "Christianity" by requesting a mediation between you, he and his pastor. You'll learn two things rather quickly if you present your facts as you stated them with the proper documentation from the repair man,
1) You'll find out if he really is a Christian.
2) You'll find out if it's really a Christian church.
If the answer is yes to both questions, you will be made whole. If the answer is no, you'll be out the money, but you'll be able to tell your uncle to look for another church.0 -

I consider myself a Christian, but I can tell you, we are wronged at times too. I've had people I sold guns to break or damage them and tell me they were that way when they bought them. Mind you, I'm talking about personal sales of personal guns that I used and knew nothing was wrong with them.
I have always made good on it by either having the gun repaired or giving them their money back, even when I knew for a fact that they were the ones who damaged the gun, and even after more than a year of them owning it.
The world is full of cheats, some do the selling, some do the buying, and I have been hit between the eyes by both of them. I've even been wronged by a member here who sold me a gun that would not fire after telling me it was in excellent condition. Tore it down and replaced the firing pin and spring and got it working again, but it added another $42 to the price of the gun which made it a bad deal.
Just be honest in your own dealings and be accountable to yourself. That's about the best you can do.0 -
DHEFFY and others. You all know it is the 10% who cause 90% of the problem. It is and will allways be. It is the same in the military as it is all over the world. Uncle belongs to largest babtist church in town. No, I will not waste my time to determine if he is a real"christian" or not. For those who believe, his god will take care of him later. Generally speaking anyone who repeatedly stresses their "honesty" (or Christianity, in this case) is someone you probably don't want to deal with.
An uncle of mine got a "good price" from a roofer who attended the same church he did. He paid up front and the job was never 100% completed. The guy left a mess on the ground and did not reinstall the gutters and downspouts. So much for a good price.0
