baby deer
we caught a baby deer over the weekend its mamma was no were to be found things just like a dog now called the game warden but they could not come and get untill today [V] just enough time for the kids to get attached to it [V][V].Ill post some more pic later of the kids with him.

You are not supposed to rescue a fawn. The mothers leave the fawns for hours, while they go out to get food.
Only if you know the mother is dead should you rescue the fawn.

Guess I should have told the whole story the dogs found it in the middle of the field about 50yards from the house next door no mamma deer would leave it in the middle of a uncut field at least I would not think so we had been watching it for about 30min looking for the mamma when the dogs got site of it and took off. I dont think a mamma will go very far from its baby that it cant here its cry for help.
Im just galde the dogs did non kill it.

There is a "strange" animal guy in our area who has all kinds of odd things....Camels...Zebras....Emu...Yacks...and I heard him saying that male deer are great for the first bit....and then when they go into rut it gets dangerous.
If you end up keeping him for any reason BE CAREFUL! Not to mention the nut jobs who will shoot a tame deer in a fence NEAR YOUR HOME just because they are lacking the brain cells to see the problem with doing so.0 -

+1 I don't know how long they will leave them but I do know it is for quite some time and she will be nowhere in sight. Go out into the area and sit under a tree with a grunt call adjusted way down to fawn bleat. I'd bet by nightfall mama will come runnin'.0 -
Even does can be dangerous when it growes up .
Daughter used to raise deer brought to her by the wildlife people .
She would get them to nurse on a goat and never handel so it would stay wild.0 -
Bet it's not an orphan. We see Does bring fawns up near the house and bed them down; then be gone feeding for hours. 0 -

Actually, the doe WILL leave her fawns in an uncut field while she goes out looking for food. They prefer the uncut fields so the fawn can bed down under cover. Many fawns get run over by tractors pulling mowers(bush-hogs) because they will not get up out of the tall grass. I know you had good intentions, but you should try to get the fawn back with its mother. 0 -
In the middle of an open uncut field is the best and safest place a momma can leave the fawn. A fawn does not have any scent and there are not apt to be any predators wandering around an open field. I've seen does leave their fawns in an uncut hay field for over 4 hours while they feed and rest. You screwed up. Should have left it alone and waited for momma to come back. Now you've needlessly taken a wild deer out of the wild and condemmed it to a life of captivity. [:(!] [:(] 0 -
Hey taz, enough of people harping on you about shoulda, coulda, woulda, myself included, its not like there ain't enough of 'em to go around. Look at it this way, you just saved your wifes Lexus from smacking into it at 60 mph a coupla yrs from now. Would like to see more pics of it though. 0
