Help me choose my 45 and 9mm(update)
I was going to buy an AR15 sometime soon, but with the price of ammo and everything, I decided on a pistol instead.
I've narrowed it down to an HK USP Tactical or Kimber Eclipse (Custom or Target length probably)
If I go with the Eclipse, I still don't know which size to go for.
I like the full size 5", but that Compact or Commander size pistol would make a real nice carry piece as well.
I also would like to pick up a full size 9mm.
I'm thinking about a Glock 17(maybe 34) or XD as my poylmer choice. I admit, since working at the store, the Glocks are growing on me.
The Sig 226 or 229 would be my choice as a Steel framed.
What says all of you?
I have some time to make up my mind, and probably won't get it for a couple months, but I want to make a decision before then.

I've been reading quite a bit for a while now. The Kimber's are said to be high maintenance. True?
I really like the looks of either of them. I'm starting to lean towards the HK.
I would also like to add the Beretta 92F in the lineup of 9mm's and possibly drop the Glock from the list.

If you're going to get a Glock, I'd get the 19 instead of the 17....the smaller frame makes it an option for CCW and the 19 can use the full sized glock 17 mags if needed. 0 -

You can pick up a used Browning if you look hard enough cheaper than this one.. I also like the HK 9mm elite target gun with the 6" barrel. Stay away from the Kimber 9mm Target. Mine would not cycle and was not that accurate.0 -
I'd personally get Sig for both 9 and 45, however between those two 45's I'd go with the HK personally. 0 -

For the .45 I would go with the HK USP, it is a really great gun that you can enjoy for many years. For the 9mm, lets just say it would be anything but a glock. An XD would be nice but you just can't beat a CZ-75 (or clone). 0 -

I almost purchased a Kimber a year or so ago, and the more I researched them, the more grumbling of quality issues I began to hear from owners.
The HK Tactical on the other hand is a real fine gun. I own one and it eats anything, is can ready, target sights, decocker, high capacity mags, o-ring seal, etc. 45 cal. of course...
I also liked the handy carry case!0 -

With a .45 the shooter is the determining factor. If you can't hit a bull in the azz with a shovel then any .45 is a waste of money. If you can shoot worth a darn get a target gun that is able to reflect your shooting abilities. 0 -

Was a real nice feeling and fitting pistol. Had a terribly gritty single action trigger, but otherwise a well detailed piece. It may go on my "get this next" list.

I knew you were a HP fan, but never knew if you've ever fired on.
You either looked at the 75B or 85. The 85 is the combat version with ambi safety.
I have a 40P and might actually spring for a 75 as well. At that price, one would be foolish to pass on one. The gritty trigger is odd, they are usually VERY smooth. Might just need cleaned, although they are made to take thousands of rounds between cleanings. A little oil and a few rounds would make that trigger smooth as butter.0 -
I have three Kimbers and love them all. They are accurate and very reliable. I have two lightweight compacts and a Gold Match in SS that is as accurate as anything I have ever seen.
They Kimbers with the outside extractor are the models that people had problems with and they don't make them anymore to my knowledge.
The HK's are great pistols, but they are blocky looking to me and have never appealed to me.
For a 9 mm I would go with a Sig if I could afford the cost. The Sig 45 220 is not a bad choice also and a pistol to take a look at.

Sig 220. Try to find a nice older one without the rail. Excellent trigger. Doesn't feel that much heavier than the full sized Glocks. 0 -
I vote for old reliable for the .45.
and new reliable for the 9.0 -
...cubs, cubs...buy you books, send you to school...and you eat the pages. For that money, find a nice original Colt Delta Elite 10mm, you will NOT be dissappointed...and the price will just zip up on a regular basis, even if you shoot it. The DE's are pretty reasonable right now, just keep an eye out for one someone has not jacked with.
...the changes on this DE are all drop in, and I can put the originals back in anytime, and sha-zam...all original.
...AND yes, Ive found out that "some" Kimbers are high maintanance...and read several articles that do not talk to highly of the Kimbers with th "II" in the model...but hey, somebody will always pick faults with any gun. I LOVE the way the Grand Raptor II looks, mmmmm-mmm!
...The DE is a top notch gun that shoots one of the most versitle ( and POTENT) semi handgun cartridges ever, the 10mm, that just goes up every day in price...now THAT, is hard to beat...[;)]0 -
How bout a Colt 1991 Compact for the .45
and a Baby Eagle 9mm Compact for the 9mm0 -

To be honest I'm not all that impressed with Colt semi's. My Defender is nice, but it's alot more picky with ammo then my Sig.0 -

I've probably shot 80 percent of all the 9MM I've ever shot out of one or another of the Hi-Powers I've owned, over the years. They are just the finest pistol ever made, in my opinion, and they shoot well without any gunsmithing. I am a big fan of Mr. Browning's operating system, on both the 1911(s) and the Hi-Power(s).
Only one I ever had that I didn't like was a .40 that I couldn't hit the floor with. The .40s use stiffer factory springs and a larger, heavier slide.

I am really surprised your not looking into a Sig 220 in 45 cal.
Sig = Single and double action, de-cocker and slimmer than the HK.
Kimber is great, but you may have to play with the recoil spring and capturing it for takedown if it's similar to the setup on my CDP.
The best of both worlds between the HK and Kimber.
Any reason why the sig is not in contention?
As far as 9mm, You can never go wrong with a High power if single action, or the sig 226, 228, 229 for Da/ Sa and de-cocking.0 -

I like the look of the HK USP Tactical in 45(it's avail in all caliber) and I have to have a 226/229 in 9mm as well.

I have the USP tactical with a supressor and it is a great combination. The can is ultra-quiet (AAC Evolution) with water in the baffles and is quite comfortable to shoot. Expect to let people try it out when you take it to the range.
For 9mm, someone else aready said it, but the IMI baby eagle is hands down the best 9 I have ever shot. Our range warden thought it the best he had ever used as well. I have the polished nickel with wood grips. It fits like an absolute glove and is accurate as hell.0 -
