AK receiver question

Personally I would rather start with a pre drilled flat.
You can get the flats for 25.00 compared to the 60.00 for this pre bent receiver.

Actually I would find a new FFL to transfer you in a ready to build receiver.

Off subject but do you like the B17 Bomber?
    I know you like aircraft.

I was thinking a pre drilled flat before, but I don't have access to any equipment to bend it.

The B-17 is a fine aircraft. Do you know that the -17 was originally designed for a gross weight of 37,000 lbs, but operationally they were flown fully loaded at 64,000 lbs.

If someone here has the jig and press needed to bend a flat, is there any way to covertly mail a bent receiver back to someone after that some one mailed it to said anonymous person with jig and press?

I would get a flat and then ask at the hometown forums on Arfcom for help getting it bent.
There usually is someone locally with a Brake.

I wanted to send you a small poster of a B17 because for some rerason everytime I look at it I have Catpealer pop in my head.
If you want it email me you address and I will send you a copy.

Once the flat is bent it miraculously becomes a rifle & must go the FFL route, or so I'm told.
I made one once out of a peice of .063 aircraft steel just to see if I could do it.
It functioned O K but looked like the south end of a north-bound mule.
Best bet is to find someone close with a bending jig & rent-steal-borrow it.
If you do some googling there are sites that rent-lend these jigs.

I have MIG welded AK's kits together. The rivets holding an AK together are soft steel. Very soft...very easy to drill.

Weld a nut to the buttom of the trunion on your AK parts kit. After you weld your ak together....run a bolt up to that trunion nut....that's called "Insurance".

Also those thread kits aren't worth squat. I bought the taps everyone is using to bolt the trunion to the receiver. You get 2-3 threads MAX holding it all together.

I'll trust my MIG....and a grade 8 bolt. Much stronger than those stupid Russian soft metal rivets...or the threading method.

I'm well aware that once it's bent, that piece of sheet metal becomes a dangerous, deadly weapon (freaking stupid). I do have a 110 MIG welder, so I am considering the fold-by-hand-and-weld flat. I never thought about welding in the trunions, I'm a competent welder, so that might be worth considering.

What I'll do first is see if the gun shop in town or one of the pawn shops that deal in guns will do the receiving part of a transfer. If one of them will, I'll probably just get a finished receiver off of the auction side.

+1 on that. The guys on AR15.com could probably recommend you a FFL too. We had a build party last year w/ the AR15.Com Illinoia HTF. Built 6 complete AK's in 7 hours.
