1911 mag question
I got a good deal on some 1911 mags ($5/ea NIP) advertised as Mil Spec. They come in heavy craft paper with one side plastic laminated or waterproofed somehow. Package is marked,

These look like good mags for that price especially. All steel, steel follower, floorplate spot welded in, no extension, 7 rd black iron oxide finish.

Better buy them by the dozen because you most likely are going to have to throw a couple away.
Only mags I trust are Novaks sold by CDNN and Pachmyrs.0 -

i have a question here, and i am not trying to be mean, i am actually puzzled
why do some of you spend high dollar on a 1911, spend time reloading down to the 1/10 accuracy, or spend money on high dollar ammo, and must have the best "defense ammo" money can buy, while you buy these cheap magazines that may or may not work, but will eventually fail you, i do not understand how you can love your gun so much, but refuse to fork out for a good wilson mag?0 -
Personally, I have forked out money for good Wilson mags for everyday carry. I also have a pile of standard cheap 1911 mags for playtime. When we go out back to the range, we load every mag we have. After burning up our reloads, we dispose of the ammo in the Wilson mags in an appropriate manner, then clean the pistols and reload the Wilsons. I don't like to stop shooting to reload mags any more than I have to. 0 -

I'm glad you said it that way. I have a RIA 1911 clone, $335 including transfer fees, don't reload, don't have my pistol tricked out, don't buy expensive ammo and really don't expect a need to kill anyone with it. It, as are most of my guns, was bought for plinking. Moreover, I spend my money as I see fit and may buy another dozen. I may very well buy a Kimber, Coonan or other high end .45 and Wilson or Novak mags one day, I may not. I was asking about surplus mags, not about Wilson mags, for my $300 .45, OK with you?
What puzzles me is the preponderance of members here who are so eager to submit impertinent posts when a thread is posted along lines that may be in disagreement with another's OPINION.
Actually, the more time I spend on this board the more convincing the theory that many people need to own guns as a result of damaged and inferior egos is to me.0 -

I think alot of us that have been shooting 1911's for a long have been burned enought times to realize what works and what doesn't as far as mags go.
Personally I have bought a couple Wilsons and found they were not up to par to justify the $25+ fee each. I find Wilsons wear out just as fast as Chip McCormicks.
That being said send me a copy of that link or post it here. I've been thinking I should buy 10 or so cheapy mags ang give them a try. I figure you could always return the ones that are complete garbage. [:D]0
