I have to find a new transfer dealer :(
The pawnshop I have used for the past several years now refuses to accept deliveries from non-FFLs even though the owner knows it's legal and he has done it in the past. He also said that he's "getting away" from doing transfers.
I wonder if the ATF has put a scare in him? They yanked 161 licenses last year for minor recordkeeping and procedural errors so maybe they are scaring off the smaller dealers from transfers for fear of making a small mistake and losing the FFL?

Many dealers believe we are taking business away from them by buying online. Many others are barely making any profit from transfers and don't want to be bothered by the added risk of transferring stolen guns sent to them by private parties. It can't be easy to explain, getting a gun that comes back stolen and find out the copy of the DL the seller sent, was photo-shopped. 0 -
Some states probably only allow shipment through an FFL, is this his line of thinking or is it that he's just giving up on it. 0 -
I found one in the GB lists Saxon. Charged me $10 for years, and now is up to $20. Shops were changing $25-$35 when I started using him. 0 -
Reread- it's a pawnshop not a gun shop. He sells used guns taken on loans but it's not his main business so he's not losing sales with transfers and in the past he was happy to do transfers. Now he's changed his mind. That's his right. I can understand a gun shop owner preferring to sell a gun rather than transfer one and that's why I don't even approach stocking dealers for transfer services.
No state laws involved and like I said he knows the federal law and has done it before. Now he won't. Fine. But it sucks to have to change.
I already found 6 dealers withing 10 miles of my home listed on the GB home page charging $20 or less. I emailed one asking about accepting deliveries from non-FFLs. He's a retired military guy doing gunsmithing so he has an FFL but apparently he doesn't keep any inventory and the only gun sales he does are transfers. Hope this works out.0 -

the one we used to use told us now to transfer out it would be 35 dollars per gun plus shipping we had 3 going out and that just was too far outta whack for us he said yo just take on so much liabiliy doing these transfers[?] 0 -

So in this day when many gun dealers are only making 10% on a gun sale ($40 on a 400 dollar gun) making $20-$40 on a transfer which involves little more than processing paperwork is too much trouble?? 0 -
I have seen in the past few years that they (the authorities) are doing more audits on the transfer paperwork to see what is coming through and if properly & trustworthy. I know it is a breach to an ammendment to the constitution, but hey, taxes are a breach too.
They had just started doing an audit here at a local shop a while back, and during the process the owner passed away. Not sure if they continued the audit or not, but the family or co worker still runs it, but they no longer do transfers either.0 -
If I take a gun to a FFL to get it shipped to another FFL does anyone run its serial number for stolen? If the FFL's dont then what difference would it make where the gun comes from? 0 -
Saxon, no, I`m in Norman, 2 hrs. sw of LR. Was It Ken you were dealing with or the store mgr.? I met Ken in Hope at his first store and have a good friend working there. Want me to call him and find out what`s going on? Might just get this mess straightened out? 0 -

We are FFL dealers and were just checked .. We were checked by two state policemen who said they are doing the ATF's job now .. We are in NY state.. First time checked in probably 8 years. No mentions of transfers or anything .
I think what you are seeing from dealers is that they are losing sales to the internet and feel that if they jack the prices for transfers they will dissuade people from buying online .. Some dealers dont have any idea of how a computer works and just find he online sales a hassle.. If you think about I would sa ythe majority of the dealers out there have been in the business for years .. How many young guys want to get into this business ? Not making any money and dealing with the public ?
As for our policies we charge $25.00 for all transfers and $20.00 for regular customers. Isee it as free money and great customer relations .. Also helps bring people into the store..0 -

We don't charge a transfer fee (not a dime) because if I get someone to come by the store....I keep them. Just about all of the transfers we have done has led to a regular customer.
You log the gun in.....do the 4473....log the gun out. Most of them come from FFL dealers. The ones who do come in from individuals aren't any harder than the ones who come in from a store (or my own distributor.)
I LOVE IT...when someone finds out we don't charge a fee and gets me to fax my FFL.....then when they come by to get the gun find we are selling a BETTER gun for less money than they have paid.0 -

What is it, 5 minutes on the phone calling in to the Feds?!? And as far as the rest of your post, if it was online gun purchases that are an issue, there would be a trail on the net that would be fairly easy to follow. As far as I'm concerned 15-20 bucks is plenty. One local dealer here charges 50.00.[}:)][xx(][:(!]
