Which sheath knife-Fixed or Folder?
Which do you prefer? Which brand? Size? Domestic/Foreign?
The reason I'm asking is there may be a giveaway soon and I'm trying to determine a general preference. Any info is appreciated.
Some brand possibilities include Buck,Case,Gerber,Ka-Bar,Marble's,Sog,etc.

CRKT folders are excellent. So are the Ken Onion designs from Kershaw (Nuts about ALL my Leeks). Currently eyeing the Tatung (fixed) from Blackhawk. Have a nice Timberline Zambezi (also fixed) that I really like. Cold Steel has some winners, too. 0 -
I carry a fixed CRKT K.I.S.S., as well as a Kershaw folding Hunter and a little bitty Kershaw folding lock back.

Unless a sheath knife is older, I don't care for factory blades.
Old Marbles, Remington, Western, Queen Steel and German Soligen Steel fixed blades are sweet.
I am partial to customs knives in my old age and increased finickiness.
I feel the same about folders, but do like some of the Boker and CRKT stuff. Anything newer in "Case" and "Queen" is still pretty good, particularly in a folder.0 -

From what I've seen on their websites CRKT and Cold Steel are made in Japan,Taiwan and China,primarily. I believe SOG's are,as well. I also know that most of the less-expensive Buck's,Case's,Gerber's,Ka-Bar's,Kershaw's,et al, are made overseas.
I wish I could afford to buy a fine,custom-made,heirloom-quality knife to give away,but at this time cannot. This will be a knife to use for hunting,camping,cleaning game,utility and NOT a collector or something to put on display.

I like Gerber folders. Bought one last week. Can't remember the nodel. 2 inch blade. Nice little knife. I usually end up losing them though! [:o)] 0 -

It would appear,from the responses,that most prefer a pocket-type knife and not a belt/sheath-type knife. Am I interpreting this correctly?
I,on the other hand,am somewhat of a traditionalist and like a fixed-blade on my belt,along with a smaller 2-3 bladed pocket knife.
That said,I will go with the consensus for a giveaway.

Gerber Covert Folder is my choice. A fixed blade doesn't work in dress clothes, but the folder seems fine. 0 -
As far as pocket knives, I have a few different ones that I rotate, from a Case to a few different Bucks. Hunting purposes, I have a few other ines that I use. Too many to list there. Also have a few "real nice" ones that I keep put up. 0 -
I've always been partial to Case knives myself, mostly folders, but fixed blades too. Primarily 60's and 70's knives.

folder, CKRT M-16 fullsize or Gerber Combat Folder, my personal favorites. If I had to use a fixed blade then it would come down to the K-Bar or Gerber MKII 0 -

And he took it with him to Iraq on his second tour. He thanked me for the knife and wanted to give it back to me, but I told him to keep it. It was the Iraqi freedom

I usually carry a Gerber Gator, but now I'm giving a SOG tiger striped Trident a try. This SOG seems to be a good knife so far. 0 -
I carry that Kershaw 24/7. It's the assisted open style. It uses a Torson bar to assist in the opening. Very light, holds an edge like no other.
When hunting I have a few others I carry. I have a 4" Ozark Trail, and a 4" Smith and Wesson (with the guthook). I also have a Schrade folder/skinner with the guthook.0 -

Here's a few of mine, mostly Case, a few Kabar, a couple Marbles, an old Remington, a couple switch blades and Misc stuff!!
I work at Cutco/Kabar, but Case is only 8 miles from here, and Ontario Knife is 30 miles away!!!0 -
