Has the Glock fallen out of favor?
Good morning, it seems like now all of the gun rag editors have pushed the Glock to the back burner for the newest latest greatest guns. Has the Glock fallen out of favor with the "experts"? I carry a Glock 19 and love it, but I guess since Glock has keep it's production consistant and have not had any major changes (why change perfection), that now they are overlooked. Am I wrong about this? Thanks for your input.

they have not fallen out of favor. In all the last gun mags ive read they were all pushing the XD's and M&P's. Theyre just the new things. Glocks are just not "in" now. 0 -
I think the Glock, like the Colt SAA and other established firearms, has already established its reputation and you either love it or hate it. It is what it is and, unless they come out with a new design, there's really nothing new to report. However, the manufacturers pay a lot of advertising money and "incentives" to publishers to promote their new products. It's like Motor Trend Magazine's "Car of the Year" - it usually gets awarded to the company who buys the most ads. 0 -

the answer is yes. The only ones that continue to use these are departments that are looking for a low price or have purchased such a large number of these white elephants they can't get approval to dump them and replace them with better quality weapons. I know of one dept. that went to sigs (an excellent choice) many that are allowed to purchase their own opt for a 1911 style. (an even better choice)But for all that I'm sure there will continue to be a market for Glock's simply because the bean counters that approve these purchases know they can save some money buying them. by the way my duty weapon is a glock model 22. 0 -
It is just marketing, the gun mfgs support the gun rags and the gun rags have to support the gun mfg by promoting the "NEW" and hyping it up as the newest, latest and greatest.
Look at the latest rifle cartridge craze as a perfect example. The number of hunters is is decline, the number of new hunting rifles being sold each year was in a nose dive, so the big mfg's came up with a whole assortment of NEW calibers, most notably the WSSM. The gun rags create a lot of hype, pushing them as so much better than the good old cartridges that have had absolutely no problem taking game for the last half a century or longer. You really don't need a new rifle in a new caliber, BUT they need you to buy their new rifle and their new ammo to keep the plant in production and the printing presses running.
It doesn't matter if you are talking, about guns, ammo, hamburgers or widgets we consumers gulp down propaganda and marketing scheme's with glee and ignorant bliss. As long as we keep opening our wallets and throwing cash at them the snake oil salesmen will keep coming up with some kind of new snake oil that you just have to own.0 -
Not sure what you are asking here green mile? Yes the glock does not need much more advertisement. It was basically the first poly framed defense/duty gun in the world. Basically everything else that is out there now S&W, Walther, Springfield, CZ, HK, Steyr, and some others have had to bow to the poly frame of the Glock. They just have some other operating systems...some with external hammers, some without. It is all about what is new, to sell us new stuff, and for the gun rags to pay bills. 0 -

Glock is definitely not the only pistol out there with issues, but referring to them as perfect shows a serious lack of knowledge.
Over the years they've been forced to make a ton of changes to their pistols, both major and minor. The changes I'm referring to haven't come from them simply recognizing ways to improve the design, but from identified flaws-many of which have been critical. Consumers have been misled by Glock from the beginning through their use of the terms "upgrade" or "remediation program" to describe what are actually product recalls. In fact, the biggest problem I have with them is the way they handle any and all identified problems.
To give you an idea, one of these first "factory upgrade" examples required the replacement of 6 of the pistol's 33 parts and effected all pistols sold prior to 1991. This was due to incidents reported by their users where these pistols would discharge while simply being chambered. There were also documented/witnessed cases of them sometimes even firing multiple rounds full-auto when just chambering the first round. Calling this a simple product improvement is a bit misleading.
Notice too that you see a few different designs of their frame rails. This was due to an identified problem with the slides coming off when the pistol was dropped, also causing a round to discharge. The fix for this well documented problem was again characterized by Glock as a "product improvement".
A more recent example comes from NYPD, where they began experiencing such severe malfunctions with their G19's that they couldn't be cleared through an immediate action drill-tools were required. After a documented incident where this occurred in the field during an officer involved shooting they requested proposals from other manufacturers to replace all their pistols. To keep from losing this highly touted contract they set up a shop at NYPD's training facility and spent a couple of years remachining the slides of over 10,000 of their pistols. Glock referred to this as a product remediation program.
These examples are nowhere near the only problems that have come up with the Glock, but as I stated they aren't the only ones that have experienced problems.
Those who rely on gun rags for their info have been left mostly unaware of these many issues due to these publications primary income coming from advertisers. They might not speak in glowing terms about a gun, but don't expect them to be highly critical of any gun manufacturer- especially one with such a large advertising budget.0 -

On ehting I hear from my customers is that Glock's are no longer Cool, they are becomming a hard sale do to that. However I cannoot keep HK USP's and Beretta PX4's in stock, they they just happen to be cool right now.0 -
I have never liked Glocks but I will admit that I shot one yesterday that practically put them all in the same hole at 10 yards...I actually shot it better than I did my carry gun...still cannot stand the darn things though.[;)] 0 -

I put Glock in the same category as Chevrolet trucks and cars.
Have not kept up with the times and are fading out of favor fast due to it.
Take that new GAG NASTY looking Chevy Monte Carlo..
People are stuck looking at that waste of engineering effort for the next ten years like everything else Chevy makes before they decide to make a body style change.0 -
