I plan on using the 480 to take a few does out of the heard and then I am going to use the encore with a 15" 7mm-08 pistol for my bucks[:p]

I pistol hunt. It's the only gun I've used for large game.

    .45LC Contender. I'm a deadly sumbitch.[^]

    Nope.[:D]

I use a 10" and 12" Encore in .44 mag with handloads (240 grain Hornady XTPs), 10-1/2" Encore in 7mm TCU with handloads (139 grain Hornday BTSPs), 14" Contender in 7mm TCU with handloads (140 grain Remington SPs), 15" Encore in .243 Win and .260 with handloads (100 grain Speer Grand Slams and 140 grain Sierra Gamekings, respectively). Those are all for deer. I use a 10" Contender in .22 Hornet and a 15" Encore in .223 for varmints.

As for a good factory load, stick with the Hornady's. They developed the round so they probably do the best at loading them. I would go with the 325 grain XTP loading. You really don't need the 400 grainers to knock down Texas Whitetails.

Use a Dan Wesson 357 w/ 10 inch bbl, whitetails, laurel thickets, 50 yds is a long shot. Heavy solids, put one in the boiler room, they drop like a bad habit.

I hunt with a pistol, TC in either the 30-30 or .444 Marlin. I have taken deer with both (actually 6). It's different than with the trusty rifle.

Before I sold my 480 [:(], we hunted deer together quite often. So much easier to take it through the thick stuff than a rifle! I used the Hornady 325 grain XTP's with great results. Took 5 with it, all one shot kills. The furthest was about 80 yards. The closest was about 10 yards. Good luck!

6" Colt Anaconda .44 Mag. topped with a Tasco PPII red dot sight or 6" S&W 686 .357 Mag. for whitetail or yotes.

I carry a .45 sidearm when hunting in bear country (which is actually everywhere we hunt), but do not hunt with a handgun, heck I have enough trouble hitting them with a rifle!

Have used handguns exclusively for hunting for past 12-15 yrs. Favorites are FA 41 mag and FA 454. Took a good Axis buck with the 454 @ 80+ yds couple of weeks ago.

Used to use contenders. 6.5 JDJ was my favorite. But hunting with revolvers places significant limitations on distance (100-125 yds for me). I love the challenge.

    Good hunting.

Used a S&W 1006 to take a doe a few years back. Now I carry my Blackhawk .41 Mag. along with me just in case.

I've shot deer with this .454. I'd like to shoot an elk next. I used the Buffalo Bore , 300 gr. J.F.N.. (1550 fps / M.E. 1600 ft. lbs.). It is very accurate, 3" groups at 100 yards.

Haven't used my deer rifle in a few years....it's getting lonely in the closet!

    Encore .308 15" bbl w/Leupold 2.5x8 scope
    Encore .44 mag 12" bbl w/Bushnell holosight
Ruger bisley vaquero .44 mag 5.5" bbl
Ruger vaquero .44 mag 7.5" bbl
    Ruger MkIII hunter

    Handgun hunting? Yep.....I'm an addict!

When I hunt with my revolver, which isn't often anymore, I use my S&W 629 Classic. Before that I used an Interarms Virginia Dragoon. What a club that was. I did kill a deer with it though. Like 200gr JHP loaded to about 1425' per/sec. Accurate load in the Smith. Nothing was very accurate in the Dragoon.[:)]

I either use a XP-100 chambered for the .284 Winchester, or my 14" 375 JDJ Contender.
Lots of deer down since NYS opened hunting deer with a pistol in 1980....
Couldn't use the .284 for a few years because of the 35 caliber rule, but they finally wised up.
