CD/DVD disc question

I'm wanting to transfer a bunch of old VHS stuff for viewing on both TV or PC.

Can someone explain the differences between +RW and -RW on CD's and DVD's? Any advantages or disadvantges?

    i myself have not found a detailed definition, but i do know that some older dvd/cd players may not play the +, - is the latest format, i have not seen any difference or advantage of one over the other

    As far as I know there's no real difference any more if you're using relatively new (last three years) equipment. Some older players and burners required one or the other. This was especially true of the cheaper ones.

    Well the + or - are different formats and your burner may require one or the other. I think they will both play the same.

    R is for a disk you can only burn onto one time.
    RW is one you can reuse kind of like a floppy disk. I am not sure how this works but but they cost way more.

    rw is the most innaceptable of them all, i don't use them because when i make a cd or dvd i don't want to chance loosing what i put on them

    A DVD disk will hold much more than a CD.

    I transfered all my home videos from VHS to DVD with a Dazzle Video Converter[http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/Dazzle+Video+Archiving/Dazzle+Video+Creator+Platinum.htm]connected to my PC. R- or R+ should play on most if not all PCs or DVD players however if you are doing the burning on a PC you must make sure you Drive is + or -R or both.Most Burners in the last few years do both. I do not believe you will be able to put a movie on a CD and play it on a DVD player, it will have to be a DVD. A couple tips. The brands of DVDs and CDs very in qaulity. I have never had any luck with Memorex(skipping,failer to burn ect..) and now only use Verbatim brand DVD+R and have never had any trouble with them. It is my understanding that some of the cheaper brands lose the data on the disc more rapidly over time. To label them use on CD DVD safe pens or the ink can damage data on disk. I use center only sticke labels or lightscribe disk, thes are disk you flip over and burn a label on the top if your burner has lightscribe as a feature.
