You got it. I'm morel hunting...I hear them popping!!!

I'm sure I'll catch a State record Crappie in off-time.

Depending on where you are it may be more or less easy. MN (and I assume IL also, because it's close) is one of the places where the only thing that looks remotely like a morel is going to be a morel. They're pretty distinctive mushrooms. So morel hunters are safe in many parts of the US. Personally, I don't trust myself enough to hunt anything else, but I've eaten fried sulfur shelf shrooms gathered by a friend that were outrageously good.

Good luck, fishermanben. I'm sure I'll hear about the 3-pounder you'll be entering in this year's state fair.

I'm the same way spurge, if I stick to the sponge mushrooms I know I'm safe. I know there are lots of other types out there, but many of them look just about the same and dead is a long, long time.[;)]

If they're growing on manure then they make you go zoom zoom.

If you eat a whole meal of them, you might want to take a day or two off.

If they're growing in the woods, and they are a morel, they are easily identified. They grow shaped like thumbs, and have dimples all over them. They're black, yellow, and grey. These are grey.

Peckerheads are edible, and look like what they're named after.

False morels look close to the same, but more like chewed up bubblegum...really easy to spot. Don't eat them.

Hen of the woods grow on stumps & logs, and look kind of like clumps of cauliflower, as you pick them, they come off like feathers on a bird. They're cool because they grow almost year around. If you find one, just remember where it is, and let it grow. Check on it every couple of days until it starts going bad.

Giant puffballs look like giant puffballs. As long as they're snow white all the way through, you can eat them...you only want one or two meals a year of these.

Never eat any kind of toadstool. If you pick them, and they have the visible fins on the underside, they are poisoness.
