Anybody know cool stuff to do in Hawaii?
I'm going on vacation tomorrow, and was wondering if anybody had ever been to Hawaii, and more specifically Kona, and knew of any "Must see or do" things there. So if you've been, or just done the research, fire away.

Visit the Punchbowl, Arizona Memorial, Hotel Street, Pearl City, Wakiki Beach, ride the ferry to all the islands, find Don Ho, get a tattoo, rent a car and drive on H1, buy a Hawaiian shirt.
Lots of stuff to do and have fun!0 -

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what the Punch Bowl is. I was already planning on seeing the Arizona. What's so great about Hotel Street? What island is Pearl City on? Wakiki beach sounds good. How long is the ferry ride? Is Don Ho still alive? I already have tattoos. I am going to rent a car, is H1 on Kona? I'm taking a few Hawaiian shirts with me.0 -
Honolulu (and Waikiki) is on the island of Oahu. Kona is on the West side of the Big Island (Hawaii) Think ferry service has been discontinued. Kona is very touristy place. Do breakfast at the Ranchhouse offa Kam 3 highway. Big Island- take the helicopter ride over the mountains and volcano. Buy Nicky Ferrari's Kona Gold Coffee (not the blend, pure stuff- better than Blue Mountain) Drive over to Hilo- other side of Island. Score some chocolate from Big Island Candies. Macadamia nuts. Keep driving over to Volcanos, HI, visit orchid nursery. Keep driving to Volcanoes National Park.
For Oahu- yeah, do the Arizona- and the Missouri tour. H1 is East/West expressway. Take the Pali Hwy over to Kaneohe, and stop at Queen Emma's Summer Palace and the Pali overlook. Hit the bakery in Kaneohe for some pu-pu's (snacks), and head for the beach up above Chinaman's hat. Sears at the Windward Mall in Kaneohe is good place for REAL Hawaiian shirts- not tourist crap. Or just head North from Pearl, and drive to North Shore around Haleiwa (best hamburger in Hawaii)- Pipeline and Sunset Beach. Get a shave ice at Matsumoto's Grocery. Punchbowl is the National Cemetery of the Pacific. Do the hike up Diamond Head. Waikiki- visit Fort DeRussy- US Army Museum of the Pacific (freebie) Friday night fireworks at Hilton Hawaiian Vilage on the beach.
DONT'S- Polynesian Cultural Center (History wrapped for your protection) Tourist lauas (beach party w/ local folks MUCH better) Stay offa Hotel street- buncha Korean hookers and slicky boys now days. Say "When I get back to the US"- some Hawaiians are real touchy that they ARE part of the US. Don't leave stuff visible in your car- cameras, camcorders, etc. Lock da car, brudder- little small time Hawaiian borrowing going on. Ignore the guy asking "You want buy Hawiian smoke?" It's parsley with maple syrup. USE THE SUNBLOCK. And enjoy. I go to Hawaii on business about 6 times a year (dirty job, but somebody has to do it)0 -
Go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay.
There is friendly fish
the size of dogs
that will let you pet them
in that bay.

& camping at Bellows Bay

Lemme get this straight, you are going to Hawaii, and are worried you won't be able to find anything to do?
Have a fun safe trip.0 -
I would visit the war related stuff, maybe look at a gunshop and motorcycle shop or two and then just find a bar with a view of the girlies on the beach and sit and drink for a week.
Hell, I can do most of that stuff here using the tv. No wonder I never go on vacation!0 -

Ref: Snorkeling in Hawaii- great fun. However, if you ever find all of the little fish are hiding behind you, it is time to get out of the water![8)] 0 -
Look up Magnum PI, He always had the good looking girls hanging around. I'm not sure if he still lives at Robin Masters place or not. I haven't heard from him in years. If you can't find him go to the police station and ask for Dano or mcgarret sp ? they will know. 0 -
Just got back about a month ago. Spent all our time on Oahu (10 days). Did all the touristy stuff, even a laua (which the wife really liked). The entertainment was fun, but the food was a little lacking. Pearl Harbor on Pearl Harbor day was awesome! Did the east side, the west side, north side and south side, pineapple lantation, etc... - enjoyed them all. North shore was fun. Snorkling was absolutely great - did Hanauma Bay (yes it was nice). Absolutely awesome submarine ride from one of the hotel docks (Hilton complex?) - went out by boat to a private sub about 3/4 mile out - they took us down to 100+ feet around artificial reefs (took about 40 minutes for the sub ride). We saw all kinds of turtles, fish, etc. Highly recommend that deal.
Wakiki at sunset is nice, but get the heck out of there before 10pm. Honolulu traffic SUCKS. It is worse than Houston. If it is your first time, you won't have time to do all the stuff you want too do!0 -
I went about 16 years ago and I liked the Polynesian Cultural Center. I wish I had a video camera back then. It would be great to go back but I have lots of other states that I haven't seen yet. I want to go to see the New England States and the North Atlantic shoreline. 0 -
