help figuring out this ancient music
I went hiking, took the shortwave with to see what kind of reception I'd get in the middle of the day out in the country. I was going down this bigass forested hill, stopped about halfway down, sat on a boulder busted out the radio and put on the headphones. got some kind of french language station, they started playing what sounded like ancient chinese music... just drums, gongs and flute. it was awesome!! it sounded like if music could come out of all the rocks, trees and natural stuff around me, that was it. I enjoyed the 2 songs they played and they started talking in french again.
so, I want to get a CD, but I can't figure out what it was. chinese? not "traditional" chinese. japanese? nope. tibetian? don't think so.
anybody know what kind of music that might have been? is there a name for some "ancient" (we're talking stone age) kind of chinese music that has just drums, gongs and flute?

Sounds like you might want to start looking in the "New Age" music section of your local music store.
There is a pretty big selection available due to interest in "ancient" music (Native American, Tibetan chanting, Celtic and other pre-Renaissance forms, etc.....)0 -
Were you listing to PBS? They plau ALL tpes of music from time to time. You might give them a call\. Tom 0 -
If you get XM radio, they have a channel that plays music a lot like what you are describing. They may have changed the name of the channel, it was SoundScapes or AudioVisions or something like that. It's really good to listen to while sleeping/ drifting off to sleep. 0 -

I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Uncle George. Not screaming, like all of his passengers.0
