I have read so many threads that rip this city, My wife and I are native, born and raised!The thing that bugs the stuff out of me is
when you guys gay bash our city! All the people I meet are from out of state ie. Boston,Texas,Chicago and every other state very few are born here! If you think your state or city has no gay people is because they run off to california to get away from you red neck a=holes. Sorry just ranting. They are good people who clean up the nieborehoods in general and dont bug us as much as the (add race here)just to let you know, The wife and I moved out of SF and will never move back.....San Francisco Sucks!!!! and its not do to the gays!

any of you fellas from here? my son has just recieved a offer for a job with dow-jones ,and is wanting to find living quarters for 12 weeks during internship, any rentals affordable? or rooms for rent? or local newspapers or ads appreciated[;)][8D] 0 -

I lived and worked south of there for 11 years. Was not my cup of tea. Expensive??? Oh boy is he is for a shock. Apartments and so forth are outrageous in this city. Could face culture shock as well. If he does not mind an ultra-liberal effeminate town that embraces all the fringe movements out there, not to mention the homosexual dominance of the area...he might be okay. You need to check the prices of real estate and cost of living there because, depending on where you are from, it could be a shock. Hope this helps (I left in 1990 but stay in contact with friends and family still living out there).

This post is is absolutely no help to you, since you are too late. I grew up in S.F., fifth generation, and it was a great place to be in the 50s. Left in '86, and you couldn't pay me to go back for ten minutes.
Setting cynicism aside, I'd hope your son's employers might help him find a place since it's only for 12 weeks. It's a beautiful part of the country, so tell him he needs to use his off-time well. Drive up the coast. Drive down the coast. Get out at night. Be a tourist, and have fun. Then, when he's done, he should get the he** out of there.

Tell him to try the north bay,Marin county,he can get to work on the ferry from Larkspur landing every day,a nice way to get to san francisco.There is an indoor range(bullseye) in San Rafael where he can rent handguns and an open range abpout 30 miles north in Petaluma if he is taking guns with him. 0 -

try Parkmerced apartments in SF. its next to many muni bus lines a metro and bart is 2 minute away, it is also a next to SF State and has a ton of girls and parties there, also its next to lake merced which has a 5 mile jogging track,bass and trout fishing and a shot gun range. everything can be reached without a car! Getting downtown will run you about 2.50 to 3.00 depending what you take.I lived there for 18 years with the wife before buying a house down the coast.Oh there is a farmers market there and 7 churches and bingo
around the corner. Good luck! I am up there all the time and if he whants a tour of the city ie. hot spot,what to do and what neighborhoods you dont walk with out ccw,let me know!

You may want to check out www.craigslist.com Lots of rentals listed there. I visited "San Fran" numerous times in the 1980's. My last time there was 1986. So, since it has been over 20 years since I have been there, I doubt if any info I can give you concerning the atmosphere there would be of any value.
However, I bet the "food" is still great! I found food there is second only to New York City and maybe a second place tie with New Orleans. I also remember everything to be expensive. I bet that part hasn't changed.
I wish him luck and I think once he learns his way around he will enjoy San Francisco. However, I doubt if he will ever develope a taste for thier "Anchor Steam" beer. I know I never did. I tried and tried too (lol)
Just a friendly reminder to pass on to him. tell him not to call it "Frisco". I did that my first visit and the locals were offended.

I would set him up but the commute would not be fun. I am 60 miles south of SF. If he cant find anything bigger than a phone both for $1200 a month. Pacifica of Half moon bay may be a little better. I will say rent is going to suck no matter what. 0 -

Another way (and may not be the best) If he can find something outside of the city (and it will be just as hard) Find out what hours he will be working.
Points I Do know and he should be aware of-
Parking Sucks!
Freeway grid lock CAN start as early as 4:30 - 5AM and start at 2pm.
Get him a GPS! The city streets can get real confusing with road work, detours and the biggy one way streets.
If he has to run the bridges, expect toll booths, about $5.00.
The cool side, some of the best food and entertainment in the world.
and if you find the right spots it can be an all out freak show but its harmless.[:D]0
