USC ranked number 1 in poll

Now here is some real news! For those of us who live for college football (are there any professional football teams?) the first poll of the pre season is out with SC topping the balloting and ranked #1 by a wide margin. The Trojans loss last year to cross town rival UCLA [:(!] put the cap on a rather disappointing season (we were not a national championship caliber team last year and I admitted it) but this year I see nothing but another national championship for my Trojans.

    All jokes aside, USC is a powerhouse and plays some of the best coached, best executed college football on the face of the earth. They could be beat, but I don't see who can do it yet.

    Sports rating of colleges is like rating brain surgeons on the basis of pulchritude. What possible difference does it make to the point of frequentation? No matter that USC has well-deserved academic mediocrity; they go to the Rose Bowl every year and have a really swell marching band.
