No .44 Mag...454 .460 needed for Bear

[:0][:0] Why would the Officer use a taser instead of a real gun on Bear coming at them? My shoes would be out running my feet..

Officer Tasers Black Bear; Bear Dies Later


ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Wildlife officials are investigating the death of a black bear stunned by an Orlando police officer's Taser.

The year-old male bear repeatedly ignored a neighborhood's attempts to scare it away. It eventually headed for a police officer on the scene Tuesday night.

The officer stunned the bear twice with his Taser. Other officials then snagged the animal with nooses generally used to trap much smaller animals. The bear soon collapsed and died.

State wildlife officials say it's not clear what killed the bear.

    Stuff happens. I guess we'd have to have been there.

    Personally, I wouldn't have tazed it - unless I was up
    a tree and the blackie was right behind me.

    They probably did not feel safe shooting a firearm in a neighborhood where there were no doubt a lot of looky loos watching this unfold.

    Like hobbyguy said the tazer didn't kill the bear but more likly the bears own panic and catch stick cut its oxygen off.

    My question would have been why didn't they use tranqualizer darts.
    They use those all the time on trouble bears and cougars up here. Then they just collar them and transport them into the mountains the first time. Second time they show up in a neighbohood they die.

    This would be a perfect example how a squad car could be a deadly weapon.. running over Mr. Bear..

    They dart them all the time up here.
    There is a bear trap down at the state park right now trying to catch a blackie.

    I would be willing to bet the Taser didnt kill the bear, it probably was strangled to death?

    If what I have seen here in the KC area regarding suspects being tasered and then dying holds true for Orlando, Fla., then the bear probably was high on PCP or crack cocaine.


    In addition to being drunk on cheap wine.

    FLORIDA! and in the kingdom of the RAT! That says it all. Cops here in Fl taser everything and everybody from 9yr old kids to old drunks and now bears! They are trained that Tasers are an acceptable nonlethal device for control in any situation! And if a death should occur,it is always the fault of anything other than the shock! Some police officer is going to get badly hurt someday because of relying too much on an electronic device.
    I'm still wondering why the police responded instead of Animal Control. They're equipped to handle animal problems.
    (I can see the locals trying to taser a gator!) [:D]

    Ready,willing and able though I doubt I'd have needed it. Poor little critter was probably just hungry. Wonder how that cop would like being tazed and strangled.[xx(][:(!]

    Cripes,select-fire's dog is bigger than this bear! I know,I've seen it![:0]

    But,someday those elephants,rhinos and hippos are going to break out of that zoo. When they do,call me...[;)]

    PETA probably has a law passes that calls for the cop to die before he kills the bear.[:(!]

    PS, again, this is my attempt at sarcasm. I know no such law exists, but they would get it imposed if they could.
